Upgrade my 3870 cooling or go 4890? >=)

I'm a little stumped and need quick advice before I confirm an air-cooling purchase for my Sapphire 3870. It's the one with the dinky cooler that blows the hot air back into the case, yea...not that great to say the least with temps.

But I can't decide whether or not its worth shelling out around $230-$250 for a new 4890, but even then, I would want it to have better than stock cooling, so the question is, should I get the Zalman VF1000 anyway? It says it fits 4870's on their website, who knows. And I will probably ebay the used 3870 and hopefully get like $70 for it to offset the cost of whatever you guys think I should go with.

My specs choke a bit when going all out on the looks, AA, max details, the whole shebang on oblivion, tf2, and clear sky.

I say sell the 3870 and go for a 4890. 3870 is just getting to old.

I think you should sell the card and get a 4890 like you said. You'd see the most out of it.

Thanks everyone, I had a gut feeling people would respond that way.

Now the question is, does anyone know if a Zalman VF1000 will fit a 4890, stock cooling on it of course.

It will. The reference 4890 card is almost identical to the refrence 4870 card. The main difference is whats in the chip itself.

Yea its too hard for me to make a choice haha. But I did get the VF1000 cooler, so at least I can OC it a little bit to give me a little extra to hold me over till the 5k series.

What kind of question is that? Get the 4890! However, if I were you I would hold on to my 3870 until the 5xxx series rolled out.
