Hi all

I’m looking for some advice in upgrading or if it’s really need. I’m thinking about upgrade the following.

Mobo - cpu - ram with

I5 9600KF
GB Z370P D3
Corsair vengeance lpx 16gb 3000mhz

Or

Upgrade my gpu with a RTX 2070.

Which would benefit me the most?

My current setup:

I7 4790 non K
16gb ddr3
Gigabyte sniper G1 mobo
EVGA 1070 FTW

Resolution I play games on is 2560x1080p
Hope you guys can help me the right way.

Greetings
Richard

New platform would be better, and there is no benefit of that 3000mhz memory get a cheaper 2666 kit like this G.Skill

The 1070 is ok for 1440p gaming, depends on the games you play, you can tweak settings for better performance.

I actually got G.skill 2400 which runs at 2666 with no change other than voltage to 1.25

If you are looking for a value Z370 motherboard there is MSI Z370-A PRO its 105usd, but if you are plannig to OC your cpu then i would reccomend a mobo with better power phase like a ASRock Z370 Extreme4 170usd.

Also what Power supply are you using.

Can you give me the full name of that kit since Newegg ask me to which country to ship too and after that I don’t see the product but go to home page.

I can already imagine the dust inside the case but anyway if its a VS series psu i recommend changing it for a better one like EVGA 650 BQ.

I do hope that you are not planning on using stock cooler so Cooler Master evo 212 would be a smart pick but its height is 159 mm so make sure it fits in your case if you buy it.

EDIT: Since you're going with 9600kf these z370 boards will need a bios update to recognize that cpu.

Im going with Some crosair water cooling so think temp wont be a big problem. About the psu i think that EVGA is similar with the one I have right now.

I will let the store do a bios update so it should be ready to go.

To bad I need to buy a new copy of win10 though.

Thanks for the info guys

If your curret psu is Corsair VS series then no, the EVGA BQ has better build quality.

You can install windows 10 without a product key and use it just some settings will be locked, there are a lot of discounts for Win 10 you can read this link.

Glad to help and good luck.

The gpu can be sold at the end of the year which will give more options to choose from and buy a new card with a christmas discount.

Would say 4790k to 9600k is not really worth it

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

I agree with this...

His res is in between where the CPU matters much so it is a viable upgrade to just get a GPU with haswell... overclock the CPU.

For Intel, the memory sweet spot is around 3200 Mhz. I wouldnt get much less than that.

The problem is i cant oc the CPU or i need to find myself a 4790K which i think would be a waste of money.

I'd not upgrade anything... these are going to be baby steps or a massive investment for a 'medium' step forward. You're looking at new board, RAM, CPU for a minor boost that you may not even use proper given the GPU grunt. If you're not chasing high refresh rates, 100% pointless route.

Just wait. You have a decent balance in your current rig, any upgrade will unbalance it leaving you wanting for more.

Yes I thought so to guess I have to wait a bit longer.

You can overclock the CPU to single core turbo speeds but with all cores. ;)
I will look into this but will it be faster then what I have now?

Ryzen / 7nm (also on GPU) is on the horizon so good things really do come to those who wait :)

Ummm you are overclocking what you have now, so..........yes.

Your CPU boosts a single core (maybe two?) to 4 GHz now. Having all cores there can help a bit, sure! Its worth the effort IMO...You likely just set it and go, honestly. No voltage changes need to be made I would bet.

Yeah it’s literally just a line in the BOS. CPU Core Ratio- Sync All Cores, Save and reboot.

Going from a GTX1070 to an RTX2070 is hardly a baby step of an upgrade. The CPU upgrade, yes that would be a baby step.

I'd recommend going for the 2070 now and upgrading the rest as you go. That card will give you a big step up in performance, especially on that display you list in the OP.
