Upgrade???? please help.

I'm currently using a water cooled 8800gts 640mb bfg gfx card and I wish to upgrade.

my budget is about £175, but I'm unsure what would give me the best gain.

can anyone help please.....cheers if you can.

Thats a damn good card anyway. Can your current setup take SLi?? Then you could get another 8800gts!

With a 19" monitor do you really need to upgrade from that card? Or do you just wanna try something new? I'm pretty sure that GFX card is plenty for what that monitor can dish out (what's the native res?). But if it's not...then there are quite a few options...

What is your goal, what do you expect from upgrading from that GTS 640?

if you wait a couple months £175 should get you a 9800gt or there abouts. miind, your card is still good you know! right now for that money your looking at 8800gts 512 G92

going from an 8800GTS640 to another card right now won't boost your performance very much, stay with what you have and wait for the geforce 10 series, the 9 series is not giving as much performance as hoped in my opinion

agreed i can pull 11.000+ 3dmark06 with OC'ed 8800gts 320mb. i was thinking about going to 8800gt too, but perf. diff. isn't so great right now.

Yes, stay with the 640, and while you're at it, check whether the revision is B2 or B3. The B3 can OC better, but the B2s are known to push up to 660 core and about 1140 on the memory. I don't remember the shader limit, think it might be around 1600. None the less you can run a B2 or B3 at 620core/1040mem 24/7 without problems. It's probably not necessary except for a handful of games.

Though, I do think in such games, and overall you might see a justifyable increase using the GTS 512. They're around 150-180 GBP atm. Personally I think that's a great price. I remember how long the GTS 640 stuck at 250 and the GTX at almost 400 GBP. Hell their prices are still higher than the 512, if you find them new.

actually he is on a crossfire mobo so i would sell the 8800GTS and get a pair of 3870s or 3850 512mb

I would say drop the GTS & get 2 3870s for that motherboard but they just cost too much over there. I would skip the 9 series unless the g94 gt or gts turn out to be godsends. The 10 series would be your best bet if you're looking for a true upgrade from the g80 gts thats in the £175 price range.

IMHO I say take the loot and get a better...say P35 X38/48 mobo, and OC the snot off that E6600.

Thats my 2 pennies. It will stop bottlenecking that card and let it breathe a bit better and the scores and FPS will go up as well!

Judging by this and previous experience with the AW9D your FSB is maxed here.....

en ... in my opinion,you can upgrade you graphics system with two 8800gts`s if your mobo support it... after all your card is so good now,and you can change your monitor with a 24" monitor and you can taste of a new feeling...

Wow, you must enjoy wasting your money considering that the 8800 GTS can play games with ease, why put more money in Nvidia's pocket? The 8800GTS is still a competitive card, other high end card within your £175 budget will offer little performance gain that justifies the spend. Wait until the 9000 series are more established or wait until a new evolution of graphics cards that will double/triple your performance because £175 is big money to drop for 5-20% improvement especially when your current card exceeds already. This constant dropping big money stuff for little gain is the very reason why people are saying PC gaming is dying and why people are returning to consoles.

Why not put the money into more ram, 2 GB isn't a lot these days, or a new processor get a Q6600 to replace that E6600.
