upgrade time for Phenom II X4 965?

Recently bench-marked my machine with 3DMark 11, also read the Benchmark thread floating around here. Others with GTX 580s seemed to get 7500+. I got 5406 when I ran it. I'm assuming the CPU is bogging it down? Would it be worth it to swap the mobo + CPU at this point? Cost wise, would $300 be enough for both?

Those with 7500+ are most likely overclocked a 580 should get around 6000+ stock at gpu score.
The cheapest way to improve your overall pc performance is to oc your current cpu to at least 3.8 wich is very easy with a cheap decent cooler.

theres nothing wrong with the cpu i had 1 myself
overclocking to 3.8 on the core and 2.6 on the cpu/nb would gain decent free performace!
i would upgrade the mobo 1st and mayb the cooling too
dont get too hung up on 3dmark score theres many ways to score

its 3Dmark, pointless, go benchmark in a real game and then you will find out if its good enough or not.

Answer in short, Yes its fine for gaming.

At this point do what im doing and wait for Piledriver, if its good then go to it if you want to stick with AMD, if its bleh like Bulldozer then go an i5 2550k and ya set.

upgrade to Ivy bridge . $300 is more then enough if youre not going to over clock since most games arnt that demanding . Go for an i5

At that point you really should bite the bullet and wait for Haswell if Piledriver doesn't live up to scrutiny.
