im v. scared :p

i noticed on ebay that all old school parts, like my comp (AGP/478/DDR) has really boomed in price...so i decided to see how much it will cost me to upgrade (sell off this comp part by part and buy the other system part by part) and i noticed there was only like a $100 price difference! (this is using the completed listings on ebay, and the AVERAGE prices)

this is wat i did on MS excel:

Parts ---------Current Rig---------------------------Price-----Wanna be rig------Price
Motherboard------P4P800------------------------------200------????--------------250
GFX--------------X800 PRO flashed AGP----------------200------X850XT PCIe------150
RAM--------------1GB PC3200--------------------------200------1GB 667-----------150
CPU--------------3.0Ghz 478 HT-----------------------200-------E6400-------------270
PSU--------------400W crap---------------------------30--------Antec dual rail-----100

-----------------------------------------------------830--------------------------920

Difference - $90 bucks!!

Keepables
HDD------------------------250GIG SATAII
Disk drives------------------16x Samsung DVD dual layer

Am i smoking something or is this a  what the! moment :p?

BTW my prices are rounded off....like i saw the X800 go for 202 but without a silencer, and in some instances the CPU went for like 180....so this is like an estimation

This is no upgrade, just a format swap (after you BIOS hack your X800 to 16 pipes). Your *only* upgrade that will affect performance is your E6400 and its ability to overclock.

You need to go for X1650XT or higher.
And DDR2 800 or higher.

lmao thats not my point :p

My point is that i can get DDR2 and PCIe for essentially $20 more, besides the PSU.

When you think about it, this is basically a $20 upgrade to conroe (which is mad imo) and also, im getting brand new computer parts, with warranty, for 2-3 year old computer parts

Im saying, why not do it, in the future, ill have heaps of room to upgrade (ill actually have pcie and ddr2) so when dx10 gets cheap, i can afford to make the move.

finally, i just used the x850 to show that it would only cost me a small amount to get conroe/pcie/ddr2. i am leaning towards a 7900GS, or something similar, but i still gotta go through prices, and see how much my older stuff actually gets me.

hope you understand ;)

well i think you should go for it,my week 29 e6300 wil hit 3.5ghz(500fsb) easily.i'm pretty sure at 3.5 ghz it would easily beat your current system.so yes,go for it.you'll enjoy the C2D.

i'd just say dont spend loads on a higher end chip like a 6600 when my little e6300 will keep up with it.

X850XT owns X1600XT

But X850XT and X1650XT are pretty similar, swings and roundabouts sort of thing. In some instances the X850XT is better, in others (PS3.0) and some games (its a vertex vs. shader tradeoff) the X1650XT is better.

But X1800XT+ owns X850XT ALL OVER.

And a X1900XT owns a X1800XT+ :nutkick:
I believe a X1950Pro will own also.
