Hello friends

I think at a critical time to upgrade my system, but I am a fan of for years amd my dilemma is as follows
I have two options or purchase a phenom amd 9850 with the 780th asus or buy intel q9300 with asus ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38
I have always been a eceptic of intel cpu but I think the situation has changed dramatically'm the type of user who mostly play in the pc
which would be the most balanced for a $ 20 can buy additional platform intel

thanks ........:banghead:

Depends really if you are planning to OC I say go AMD for its all around lower prices. If you feel you may get the bug to OC and try for top honor on a score list, or just get a smile for seeing what can be done, I say spring a little extra loot and go Intel.

I would say Intel, after using a fairly new AMD set up for the past few months, I just switched to Intel and have seen some pretty impressive performance increases when running a system that on paper looks like it should be slower.

I would wait for a small price drop and grab an Intel system, as AMD is ok, but Intel beats the socks of AMD.

I know that intel is the fav right now, but one reason for considering AMD is that it may be a better choice in terms of upgrading your system i.e. upcoming AM3 are supposed to work on AM2+ boards, while intel socket 775 is nearing its end and will be replaced by a new platform. I don't have confirmation of AM2+/AM3 compatibility but i read before that it should work. If that kind of future-proofing is important to you consider AMD. But i would put off the upgrade till the end of the year and see what nehalem and AM3 brings to the table.

AM2 is ending it's life soon also.
The am2/am3 computability is backward though, not forward. (As far as I know at least)

asus P5K-E or Asrock Penryn1600 motherboard (both good, both can OC to 400FSB, one is SLI one is crossfire) combined with a Q9300 (quad core) or E8400 (dual core)

Pair that with 2GB ram (i'd suggest 800-1000MHz ram) and you'll have a beastly machine.

Intel all the way. The phenom is still based on older technology and until AMD gets something better, Intel is the way to go.

I think you are talking about AM2, not AM2+. i remember reading about it: one can use an AM3 CPU in AM2 board, but can't use AM2 CPU in an AM3 board. I think with AM2+, one can use an AM3 CPU with an AM2+ mobo, which would make sense since an AM3 CPU could be used in AM2 board. I know it's confusing, but it something worth thinking about if you want an upgrade path.
