I've seen reviews on memory speed and games that shows even going from 1-2 generations of cpu's or even 1 generation of GPU's difference. Most likely I'm going to wait until the reviews for both occur before making any purchases. AMD Ryzen 9000 series and the Intel 15th Generation Arrow Lake that is. I've been running my system at 1:28 with this i7 12700K and this 4800K overclocked to 5600K for sometime now and totally forgot about the good 'ol 1:1 days i had with the 775 boards and AMD boards back in the late 2000's.

@Dyno
wait until those things have been released and tested, for now spend your time getting up to date on ryzen/memory/tweaks,
then pick your stuff, especially since prices will likely change (on older boards) or sales making a difference.
i have sometimes gotten better deals getting a new board below 200$, as there are retailers offering bundles with either discount,
or sometimes even for "1$" (low tier board), if you buy cpu+board together.

@Lt. James Hetfield
stop acting like you were forced to buy anything.
what you like for upgrades or what you believe is a joke (or not), doesnt matter to other gamers/users, its up to them if/what they do with THEIR money,
and if they dont want to waste money on old or "but it does 10 GHz" intel arcs, dont care to get a socket that has been replaced (AM4), its fine getting a 7 series setup.

There is no north bridge clock on AM5 socket boards. The term 'north bridge clock' is an obsolete term.
I think the memory controller clock (UCLK) is what your referring too. Performance benefits from the relationship between UCLK & IFC are influenced by how many CCD's a CPU has. So a given CPU model must be stipulated to asses an answer to your question.

In many ways, the IOD on current-generation non-APU AMD processors is the old North Bridge, integrated into the processor's package, and it could be helpful to think of IF clock/FCLK as the HT clock on older AMD processors, but the North Bridge itself is indeed an obsolete term.

Now we have FCLK between the core chiplets, the I/O controllers, and the memory controller, UCLK for the memory controller, and at last memory clock for the memory itself.

Actual difference higher numbers would make would be dependent on the workload you have in mind, and as Launcestonian said, the make of the processor you have in mind.

If you're happy with the 12700K performance, hold on for 2 more quarters (or rather, one and a half).

There will be Intel Arrow Lake SKUs.

There will be AMD's response to that in the form of ZEN5 X3D SKUs.

Ram:
Having issues figuring out what i need
Recent leaks suggest that 7200 (3x2400FCLK) will be the sweet spot for the new 9000 series but we'll have to wait and see. The 9000 series will become available in July 2024.

I was thinking about the new X3D from Zen 5. Just not sure how much i want to spend for the cpu, when the ram and motherboard will be half the price. So there will be two different ones you'd think? 9700X3D, and the 9950X3D? I'll probably look into the X800 series and not even bother with the X650E or the X670's. Not sure if the Blackwell GPU for gaming will support PCI 5.0, but having that on the motherboard would be nice. Along with PCIe5x4/4x4's as well for the M.2 storage, four or five M.2's. Not much i really need other than Flash Back feature and if it supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 or 2 Type A and C for the front of the case. You guys all know so much, i actually stop posting on this site a decade ago.

You mean 7200Mhz? So look for 7200Mhz memory?

I don't think it will matter too much for a Ryzen 7 to match a Ryzen 9 boost speed. There is so much more to just turbo speed when doing things on the computer; Gaming, Video Editing, etc. Have you guys seen this yet?

You need reviews for that, to confirm the platform with the price/performance superiority. The best processor to get at every price point, that'll be in Q4 this year.

I'm especially curious about Arrow Lake performance. Good chance even a 9800X3D won't be able to cut it this time. Again, we need reviews for confirmation.

AMD has said that the X3D technology for the ZEN5 9000 series will be different than the ones implemented before. So we could be looking at 20% improvement instead of 15% we got with previous X3D offerings.

They've also said that the 7800X3D is gonna be faster than all of the initial 9000 series SKUs so take that into consideration as well.

I'll probably look into the X800 series
The X870 is gonna be ideal for the new 9000 series.

I wouldn't go lower than B850.

The X870E boards will NOT be cheap.

You mean 7200Mhz? So look for 7200Mhz memory?
Correct.

Do NOT rush to buy just yet. Wait for official confirmation in July/August (when the reviews are out).

I don't think it will matter too much
It's about the optimal 1:1 mode.

This is for the 7000 series.

Regarding the 9000 series, we have yet to see any official info other than recent leaks.

according to early info, amd says the 9 series wont beat 7 series for gaming, so i would plan on getting that, and save some money when prices drop on 9 release.

What do you guys think? Pretty good deal! Just $204...

Custom AMD PC by Micro Center
If you have a Microcenter near you, it's probably as good a deal as you'll see on current gen Ryzen and boards.

I added the 7800x3d, 32gb of 6000/32 (you can do 6000/30 if you don't mind RGB) and an MSI X670E board all for $500 before tax.

i would still wait until 9 series is on the shelfs, like i said, sometimes getting the latest gen+board+ram might be cheaper,
unless you are sticking with gaming perf (78003D), and want something now.

and like SFT said, i would also take an MSI over Asus, definitely over Gb.

AMd on AM4 was 1:1:1: mem clock (mclk) Mem controller (uclk) & Fabric Clocks (Fclk) (infinity fabric)

but AM5 and DDR 5 IS NOT 1:1:1 like AM4 was ( i fell into teh jump on AM5 +DDR5 and i wish i didnt..

I found that on AM5 and DDR5 that the clocks are 1:1 / 2/3rd aka a EXPO 6000 DDR5 kit would be as folows..

Uclk (3000) : mclk (3000) but infinity Fabric , aka Fclk can only max out @ 2000 Mhz..... so AM5 is not 1:1:1 liek aM4 was , AMD's AM5 could have been way better with a 3ghz fclck but tis IS NOT POSSIBLE (@ least NOT YET!!!!

now some AM5 cpus cold do higher flck but not gurenteed.. some can do 2033 but 2066 even if stable may not be any differentthan @ 2000 flck. (8700G APUs can do higher flck but less cache = lower gmaing perf anyway

IMHO! AM5 is a joke! only the CPUs (CORES) are decent. but the MBs and Platform itself is an OVERPRICED! JOKE!!! Stripped Fetures that an X570S MB had was stripped from boards @ same price or were removed altogehter. aka my X570 boards had Post code and 1220 audio and flash back... AMD equivelents were lacking post code and had downgraded 897 audio. so lame.... or they were +$100-300 more than the AM4 counterparts..... this is not why i upgrade.. my AM5 boards all feel like a huge downgrade @ least in features.. and cost way more... DDR5 and PCI-e 5 (even for SSDs) just IS NOT WORTH IT!!!

Intel + AMD + NVidia and all AIB MB&GPU Makers are just trying to capitalize on the AI Boom... dont buy anything.. LET IT ALL ROT ON THE SHELVES!!!!!!!! TEL THEM WE DO NOT WANT DOWNGRADES OR SIDE GRADE PLATFORMS!~!!!!!...
agree with you mate. Nvidia 40** was already downgrade by tech specs, but "compensation" with some "magic" "features". This is like making ICE in cars smaller and smaller but putting more and more turbo-kits.. WE DON'T WANT THIS CR*P! :D
Now 8***G CPUS with less cache? LOL. It's like Ryzen 4000 series:D We don't need ya "3D" cache for the price of 2x more cores CPU, but we want some decent price & performance balance lol

@Dyno

yes but ASUS BIOS (UEFI, calm down lol) is "vexillum pulchritudinis" for me. State of the art, call it. I hate all these "jumping" menus from sides of others...

small isnt the issue, just have to do it right.
i will take a 900HP V4 hybrid from Porsche, over anything V8/10, maybe if german/italian.... :D

non of the ryzen boards i had used for builds since 2000 series (x570). all with useless layout or able to move around, Gb was bit better, but not when it comes to hw.
