id guess at cooling is your prob, isnt a 212 just a standard 120mm tower cooler? i have a twin fan 140mm tower on my 5700x and with just pbo enabled i hit around 74c in R23 and score around 15,200
hits 4650mhz usually.
twin 120 for this one, but maybe

edit: i score 15190, sure you're not clock stretching?

other than pbo and xmp everything is at stock, i dont really do OC these days, not got the patience or the need really.

just checked it was 15205, altho weirdly i had an oddity a few days ago where it gave me a score of 16300, was a 1 off and i hadnt changed a thing, not been near it again since, so guessing maybe was a bug or something.

I checked just now and got 15143. Boost clock was 4456MHz tho, so it is higher than I remember.

edit: turns out CO is unstable, it works on cinebench but prime95 fails... and restarts, honestly might not even do CO. Without CO it boosts to 4250MHz all core, scores 14500 ish.

That is so weird , im pretty sure you have a wrong setting or something the differences between the chips cant be that large, are you sure you enabled PBO? The clocks are acting like you dont have PBO enabled.
I have a high room temp atm and some background processes and i am getting this:
Edit: In normal conditions i was having max temp of 78C and now i am getting like 82C (first time im running CB in WIN11 after an upgrade the other results are from WIN10)
You can try and enable PBO and AutoOC / CO from the SETTINGS menu / CBS (or what is called) and not in the OC MENU maybe that will make a difference, i dont know.

Edit2: Screen from WOW , its mostly single core game thow, unlocked fps at max settings without RTX.

Without PBO I get 3.7GHz all core. I did read somewhere that 4.1GHz happened w/o PBO, but I didn't have anyone else to compare with. Even with a high end-ish B550 mobo its the same, so I wasn't motherboard limited.

My chip is definitely a chip that shouldn't exist though. Early 2020 sample of the 5700X, a chip that released in 2022. 'Twas retail, though.

Anyway we're definitely going OT here, we should take this to PM.

It's an EOL platform, I would only get 5600(X) and a better GPU (and probably will, as I'm in a similar situation).
I wouldn't even buy more DDR4 RAM because you'll probably want to replace this platform before you actually need that additional RAM.
16 gb of DDR4 is bargain cheap today. and time of hypothetical "replacement" of 5600X/5700X is very very long.

My thoughts as a 5950X owner, buy a 5800X3D if money allows. Otherwise 5700X is a top pick from me considering your use case. Good luck.
3D is money waste. 5700X all the way.

For your listed use case ONLY the 5800X3D would do it trounces the 5900X I myself just bought( I had reasons besides games).

The board might not do 4x3200 but also the chip might not.

And few game's need 32GB, 16GB in two sticks at 3600 would be faster and Stabler and the infinity fabric speed increase also really helps.
back in days I've got 3*8 GB 2400 MHz RAM. I was so "f...ed in ears" by marketing BS that "RAM SPEED MATTERS!" that I've replaced this 3*8 GB 2400 MHz ram with pretty price 2*8 GB 3200 kit. Guess what? I haven't noticed "blazing speed" of 3200 over 2400 mhz, but I've noticed that I need to close browsers and other stuff to game better. So, GAMES technically may not need 32 GB ram, but ONE'S USE CASE MAY NEED, i.e. you don't need to close some programs if some game will need over 16 GB of ram. Now I build PC's for me only with 32 GB ram, it's like for 4 yrs already, I've tried "just for fun" another one 16 GB config and understood that 16 GB is LOW for me. ;)

You do you.

You might not game like me or I the same as you.

Exceptions always exist but I said nothing comedic?!.

And this threads old so despite disagreeing with you,I don't give a shit about your opinion or arguing about mine.

You do you eh and leave me out of your devilish waffling Mr 666

Nonsense, the X3D is a much better processor for gaming.

Of course if you want to talk cost per frame...

Well it depends on what monitor / resolution you play at and what GPU you have , at 1440p 144hz i think 5700x is OK if you dont play competitive and need 500fps , pretty sure people that are going for this kind of CPU arent pairing it with RTX 2080 / 3080+

Agreed, but that still makes the 5700X strictly a value proposition in that segment. The X3D is going to push a lot more frames out, as will most of the faster Alder or virtually all of the Raptor Lake parts.

I won't notice a diff with 12600K though... and don't you tell me you will get "cheaper" MB for 5800X3D, lol.

Used to be the case, though AM4 prices started to climb since AM5 is quite unpalatable to gamers' wallets. The i5 is only an alternative.

Benchmark Scores Nyooom.
Geez. And I'm having an impossible time getting 4.5. What sorta CO did you use? Am at -15, -20 crashes (-5 on best cores).
It all depends on the motherboards - default settings ran ~100MHz faster on my gigabyte x370 over my asus board, because it was dishonest with the power limits (HWinfo said it was about 5% off)

Effective clocks and benchmark results were extremely close together in reality, they just report higher on some boards

id guess at cooling is poss a factor, isnt a 212 just a standard 120mm tower cooler? i have a twin fan 140mm tower on my 5700x and with just pbo enabled i hit around 74c in R23 and score around 15,200
hits 4650mhz usually for around 10 secs then drops to 4.4/4.5mhz.

dont forget max boost isnt normally what you get the whole time. , on my last cpu max was 4.2mhz but it usually only hit 4.0/4.1 most of the time.
the 212 has poor contact with the ryzen CPU's, it's fine with the low wattage parts but the gaps between the heatpipes make it a terrible choice if they don't like up perfectly over the CPU cores

3D is money waste. 5700X all the way.
the x3D is an entirely different CPU that can power a 4090, while the 5700x falls behind

For a low end/mid-range system it's overkill, but if you're building an AM4 system that you want to last several GPU upgrades into the future the x3D is the only choice

Small update: upgrade done! everything seems to be running ok. Still some kinks to iron out, like Corsair iCue stopped recognizing Fan Speed, but according to HWinfo temps are okay <60º. Also got a little scare after upgrading when I was stuck in a "Bios Boot Loop", fixed by changing "Windows boot mode" (or something) from UEFI to CSM.

I'm starting to run some benchmarks, just Cinebench R23 for now, and I'm getting between 12200 and 12600, which from previous comments seems to be a bit low. Single Core seems close to Techpowerup's review. I left everything in Auto so far, and I'm running a new Ram kit 3600Mhz 16-19-19-39 (XMP). All core clock while running Cinebench seems to top at 3,94 Ghz (the old 2700X hit 3,85).
Any tips?
Thanks in advance

Well, first things first... update HWiNFO and all of your software, if you have stuff from that time frame installed, nothing supports your hardware correctly - look, HWiNFO thinks your 5700X is some sort of Intel Pentium engineering sample. HWiNFO 6.04 is 4 years old. By your iCUE remark, you're also running a very old version of it - all of this software will need to be updated to work with your system correctly. Hardware monitoring programs, chipset drivers, even GPU drivers, OS - update it all.

These scores are unremarkable, but OK for a stock system targeting stock TDP. You may want to enable PBO and begin chipping at it through Curve Optimizer to improve these scores.

Any tips?
Thanks in advance

iCue breaks if you use Hwinfo, it's a nightmare.
You need to disable asetek/corsair support in HWinfo, close and restart HWinfo then open iCue and hit their 'restart service' button

They've known of this for years and refuse to fix it - you can also delete icue and burn it in a fire, I've learned to hate their software with a passion after years of performance issues and software conflicts they refuse to fix.

Remember that many settings will cap performance - if you use a set voltage, the clocks get locked to the maximum for that voltage/VID from the default tables

You'll need to list what you changed and how for us to know - what your PBO settings, voltage (static/offset) regular multiplier or per-CCX multiplier, curve offsets, etc.

I ran a static voltage and per-CCX multiplier so my 3700x would idle better, and that meant PBO was still limiting the CPU - using the regular multiplier option ignores PBO (but used more power at idle)

All core clock while running Cinebench seems to top at 3,94 Ghz
This seems low, but you didnt show the power settings of HWinfo to see if they're capped at a value or not

Clock speeds, effective clocks, TDC/EDC/PPT - those need to be shown

I had noticed the Intel bit  , but my main concern at the time was just temps. Updated HWinfo and iCue already but iCue still shows 0 RPM, it could possibly be related to what @Mussels mentioned.
GPU drivers were updated 2 days ago, are you suggesting a re-install? Windows also did an update yesterday after replacing the CPU, but I'll confirm if it was related to the chipset drivers.

They've known of this for years and refuse to fix it - you can also delete icue and burn it in a fire, I've learned to hate their software with a passion after years of performance issues and software conflicts they refuse to fix.
I've read that iCue seems to have issues, but what alternatives are there to configure the fan curve and pump profiles? (I couldn't care less about RGB, the case is a black box without windows).

You'll need to list what you changed and how for us to know - what your PBO settings, voltage (static/offset) regular multiplier or per-CCX multiplier, curve offsets, etc.
Literally just swaped CPU and set XMP profile, left everything on AUTO. I couldn't even find PBO anywhere on the BIOS. My guess it's on the overclocking menu that had a "Disclaimer message" I haven't accepted yet.

if you dont adjust the settings i mention the corsair service remains frozen, with no monitoring or fan control - fans get stuck as they are, and reboots dont bring the service back

Early 2020 sample of the 5700X, ağaç feneri chip that released in 2022. 'Twas retail, though.

Anyway we're definitely going OT here, we should take this to PM.

It enables these operations to be executed with the B550.

I would consider 5600, 5600X or 5700X if bang for bucks is most important. 5800X3D if you want futureproof :)

Welcome to the 5700X club. If you have enough cooling enabling PBO leaves it close to a 5800X. Efficiency does go out of the window, though (+60W for 300 or 400MHz more). IMO the most efficient one is 90W PPT, you get about 4.1GHz, at 120 or 130W you get 4.4, but that's a lot more power.

Thanks. At the moment I'm still testing running stock. Based on the 5700X (and 7700X) reviews, I get decent Single Core results on Cinebench - 1524, but I can't reach 13000 on the 10min multicore test which seems odd because temps are max ~60º.

On the ol' 2700X I managed to get 9902 Multicore and 1079 Singlecore.
