Hello TPU'ers,

It's been a very long time since I've posted anything here, I've been out of the SSD loop for quite awhile. I have a friend who wants to upgrade his lame disk drive to a Solid State. He is looking for a 256gb or 512gb if the price is right. No gaming, main use will be for graphic design and photo editing. He would like to keep in under $250. What do you guys recommend?

System specs:
Windows 7
i7 920
16Gb
psu 600w

Thank you for your input,

T77-

Pretty simple TBH, either go for the 850 EVO or the BX100. Most other drives don't come close to the price/performance.

I work in graphics too, my advice, as I did at me, go with a ssd who have good speed for incompressible data, I have a samsung 512gb 830(because how graphics software work, I write 5-15GB of data per day), if choose samsung, go with pro version...

For $250, you can find a 1tb ssd on sale. Keep an eye out ;) But you could grab a 512gb and save some cash.

I was thinking of a sammy 250 EVO 512GB + a MX100 120GB for the OS but noticed it's not his 1st SSD so yeah big ol EVO on a sale :P.

850 Evo for the win. Makes my old 1st gen system like brand new again!

+1 to 850 enjoy real speed :toast:

To give other names, I really like the SanDisk Extreme Pro or the Intel 730 SSDs, but like everyone says, your best price / performance will come from EVO or BX100 no doubt
