Hi , i want to do an upgrade to my graphic card and i would like to know whats the best case to go with.
My PC configuration is:
MB: MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K
CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Seidon 240M
RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8) @ 2400MHz CL11
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 290
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB , 7200RPM
PSU: Cooler Master 1000W Silent Pro M2
CASE: Corsair Obsidian 650D

First of all , is it worth to do GPU upgrade on this system and if it is , should i go with GTX 1060 or with AMD RX 4xx.

Thank you!

Personally I would go with a GTX1060 of the 2.
Just compare the reviews of the 2 and then decide.
Assuming you are playing at 1080p.

for a R9 290 upgrade .... a 1060 is no upgrade nor a RX 480 ... only step up would be 1070 or 1080

i had a 290 i went 980 (sidegrade more than upgrade) and ended with a 1070 (which is an upgrade since it's close or above a 980Ti )

Personally I would go with a GTX1060 of the 2.

sidegrade is not worth it ... unless concerned by power draw :p rather than performances (1060=980=290X= decently OC'ed 290)

I guess you're right, I seemed to missed that 290 part..

If you can afford it, buy a AIB GTX1070.

check the 1070 offering from MSI, as far as i have seen, they are the most reliable around (and the Armor series is quite decent for the pricing, OC or not ) other than that .... EVGA is not bad but ASUS and Gigabyte seems to be the one that yield the most issues feedback from what i've gathered.

TBH dont upgrade. For 1080p it's not worth it. But if you really have the itch get a GTX 1070 or a 980 Ti.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
Get a EVGA GTX 1070 SC, best card for that system imo.
or any other 1070 else than EVGA ... for their pricing they offer nothing, ofc their card are nice and all ... but a little example ... my MSI Armor has nearly the same OC as a SC, pricing goes like that (no need to pay a premium to get the same clock manually and between 1556 and 1594 there is nearly no difference in real life situation) i just avoid ASUS and Gigabyte for now ...

there is no "best" but there is some "worse" (luckily EVGA is not in the "worse" category)

EVGA GTX 1070 SC (in stock only ): from 520chf to 605chf (almost more than my previous 980 Poseidon Platinum ) ok ... the ACX cooler looks nice but ... same performances as any other dual fan cooler be it Armor Gaming X Strix or whatever (kinda the same sh!t as the FE cooler ... not better but not cheaper either )

MSI GTX 1070 Armor OC (in stock only): from 468chf to 480chf

ofc the normal contender for the SC ACX 3.0 is more the MSI Gaming X and their pricing is similar (that's why i took the Armor ... way cheaper and OC alike only 2 power phase less but still more than a FE ) although the Gaming X get a additional 6pin connector for the same pricing ... mhhh more for same is almost as good as more for less

@aypactivew keep the 290 for the time being, it's way enough for 1080p (i would have kept mine under different circumstances ) you can even get a 2nd 290 or sell yours and get a 290X for way less than a 1060 with some luck and thorough searching (ok ... not really worth it either way ) my 290 did clock like a champ, under a full waterblock i reckon, but still on air i was able to clock it from 945 stock to 1150 on core (altho i kept it at 1100 for stability) with only +25mV and 1450 for vRAM (1350 normal usage )

nota bene: what the hell with all those EVGA recommendation ... do they get pay for making them ... is really a 30yrs warranty a thing ... i had some EVGA card and only issues with them, and even warranty refusal under shady excuses ... MSI on the other hand ... i did break a R9 270, although it was clearly my fault as i explained to them, but they did still replace it with no question asked after some test.

Id want to upgrade just on the power use and heat generated on those things alone... LOL!

As others have said, 1070 is your card. Go for the cheapest aib that you can find in stock. They are all about the same. As for the EVGA comments, my 1080 ftw was the cheapest 1080 i could find stocked after a week of digging.

If u want low power do a side-grade either a GTX 1060 or a RX 480 8GB AIB not FE/Ref cards.

a little note is that the RX 480 wasn't build to be a enthusiast chip just for a "really good" gaming experience in 1080p and with the price AMD actually did something right.

And they forced nvidia to price the 1060 competitively.

Well Nvidia shouldn't be worried bcs RX480 is the top card until AMD shows us smth else like RX480 X2 or smth.

No need to upgrade for 1080P imho. When ready for 1440P or 4K, get the best vfm GPU at that moment.
