I recently bought a Radeon 5600xt 6gb version. But I’m still having some cpu issues when twitch streaming games so I need more then 4 cores. I don’t want a new mobo right now I can’t afford both so I would like suggestions I know there are 2, 8 core k Versions compatible with this mobo what’s the benefit of paying 500 for the newest i7 that fits this board? I know these seem like dumb questions but I’m really out of touch with pc parts at the moment

I mean the 7700K is a good CPU, and even better when overclocked. Its really strong but still not as strong as newer CPUs because the lack of cores.

I really think its worth doing a complete overhaul instead with an amd platform centered around the 3600X or higher if you can afford it.

If you can afford 500 for the newest i7, you can afford to upgrade both the mobo and CPU. I recommend a 3700X/X570 combo.

I hadn’t thought of switching to amd mainly because last I saw was am4 am4+ days and those weren’t good days lol. I’ll have to look into some setups and post some ideas on here
Edit I meant am3 am3+

You must mean AM3/AM3+ AM4 is Ryzen and was introdduced in 2017 with the 1st gen Ryzen CPU's, but yes, if your last experience with an AMD CPU was in the AM3/+ days then things have come a lot further than Bulldozer/piledriver etc to the point AMD is now on par with Intel on IPC and has been responsible for driving up the mainstream core count from dual and quads to hexacore and octocore in the last few years not too mention making Intel lower their prices for such processors to be able to compete, Ryzen is a completely different animal to BD and previous AMD cpu architectures and as pointed out you can get a whole new platform for your $500 budget rather than paying over the odds on a dead platform

both 3700x and 3600x are in the charts so you can make direct comparison.

So an update I check pc parts picker and did some comparisons and I decided to keep my budget to 300 and for 301 I was able to snag a i59600kand a z390 phantom gaming 4 motherboard both are on my low end of what I wanted but give me the ability to dabble with new tech and still the option for future upgrades And with this setup I can do a simple board swap but enjoy 6 pretty decent cores thanks for the help guys the deciding factor ended up being about 75 dollars and my current cooling solution wouldn’t have got the am4 socket so I would have needed to grab a new water block Hopefully my cheap side didn’t screamed this time but reviews of the 9600k vs the ryzen 5 I was looking at were close

Just for posterity, that's wrong. Best CPU you can get for that motherboard is 4c/8t, like the 7700K, which is no better than the 3300X tested here for streaming:

i feel like getting a 9600k would be unwise since the 10600k is just around the corner in similar price and you get extra 6 threads..

Right but if I wait to upgrade to that I may as well wait another few months for the new ryzen ugh damn pc part release schedules!!!!

Agreed. 6 extra threads and possibly cheaper as well (comet lake prices are supposedly suppose to be more competitive).

There already taking pre-orders for 10th gen and some people have already had there processsors ship out. You can't pull the "you'll always be stuck in the waiting game" narrative when the processors are literally in the final stages of release

in the asrick website it lists comparability for the i5 9600k since the first bios release?

Sorry I also have a asrock z390 phantom gaming 4 board I picked up for 90 shipped I figured 90 for the board 200 for the cpu and better performance then what I have I must not have mentioned that sorry

Really? I thought we were a month or so out that’s why I said that with an asrock z390 gaming 4 I could potentially still get a tenth gen cpu? Sorry I’m like a noob with some old knowledge these days

No wrong socket. Not to sound mean but this is why you need to actually listen to people.

You created a thread asking for help (everyone told you either wait a week or 2 for 10th gen or get a ryzen 3000 series) and you then proceed to go buy an almost 20 month old 9th gen CPU with no upgrade path, higher out of the box power consumption, and 6 less threads.

Sorry I also have a asrock z390 phantom gaming 4 board I picked up for 90 shipped I figured 90 for the board 200 for the cpu and better performance then what I have I must not have mentioned that sorry
No your talking circles. The quote he quoted was the quote you made in your opening post in regards to the highest CPU you can buy without switching motherboards. You had said there was an 8 core model for your current chipset at the time (Z170) and he simply corrected you by saying 4c/8t is the cap for that board

Rock on. I remember when you could ask questions here and not be made to feel like an asshole but lesson learned. Thanks again guys for the help and answering questions. See you in 5 more years

Don't play the victim card. We answered your questions and then you ignored everything we said thus defeating the purpose of asking the question originally (all the answers in this thread where solid). Nothing in this thread was mean or ill so don't spin it as where the issue (at the end of the day it all comes down to accountability). We can only do so much since this is a forum and not a place of business
