Hi

I've had my PC for a couple of years and so far it's served me very well. However, I've recently purchased the new assassins creed game and it's coming up short. So I'm looking to the experts on this forum for a little guidance on how to get the best bang for my buck.

You can have a look at what I currently have on the HP Support website.

The PC is used predominantly for gaming and youtube video Editing using sony Vegas pro 14.

I guess my question is should I upgrade the parts or just upgrade to a new PC?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You really don't need to upgrade anything but the GPU maybe.

I would bet it's the GPU. 6700 is still quite new. It has a 300W internal PSU though so I dunno how can you upgrade the GPU and the PSU on that kind of setup(form factor)

The 6700 should be good enough for the next 2-3 years. Like Toothless & lyndonguitar I would suggest upgrading the GPU, the PSU and maybe adding an SSD / M.2 to it.

Well....I guess you can still upgrade on GTX 1050 TI and gain around 20%-30% in performance with less power draw which means you don´t need yet to change PSU and case....Just find some 1050TI that fits in that case and get one with 4gb....

Why would he want to downgrade his gaming performance in most AAA titles? Stop wearing the AMD blinders. If anything suggest waiting for ryzen 2.0 the stuff right now isn't special.

As an AMD user, I agree.

It's not that the AMD stuff is bad but it's really a sidegrade at best, and in gamings case, a complete downgrade.

Ryzen sure does badly here /s

To paraphrase - a jack of all trades, master of some - Ryzen is in the same ballpark as my previous X99 E5 Xeon builds, for fraction of the cost.

@Frilioth - if interested in specific benchmark lmk, i dont have vegas pro though, using Lightworks for my projects.

Edit - as for gaming i think you might even be able to fit a GTX1070 in there.

From what I see, is that the chassis is full-width, so you can go as high as you want. I'd say GTX1060 6G is your best replacement without straining the power supply.

I actually liked my 9370 build. Remember I built it when the 9370 released and it was one of the faster chips out there at that time. Roughly one month later not so much, but it did fine and I got to play with exotic cooling because it was so hot. Real enthusiast chip

The site does say ATX power supply so that means should have no problem replacing that they used to do wonky things with pin out on purpose to prevent you doing things like replacing it but that stopped a while ago. If you pick up say a 5-600 watt psu you could put mid range gpu in there to high end no problem though not sure what budget you are working to.

Meh, I feel Ryzen is fast as heck under certain circumstances (mainly bang for multithreaded buck ones). I also like that it runs rather cool and power efficient near stock.

I'm guessing we have different use cases.

It's per core performance and power efficiency was abysmal though. I guess I find it perplexing how you could've loved that chip but hey, to each their own...

From what I see, is that the chassis is full-width, so you can go as high as you want. I'd say GTX1060 6G is your best replacement without straining the power supply.
^^^^THIS!^^^^

OP, the problems that you might have with trying to put a GTX 1060 6GB in there are power connector(s), and the length of the GPU. Time to take the cover off of the PC and see what they have in there. It does appear that you can use standard ATX parts, so you could upgrade the PSU, but that doesn't seem to be necessary.
Finally found a picture of the back of the PC:

From your HP specs page - should be easy upgrade to 1050 Ti
AMD Radeon R9 370
  • Form Factor: Full-height PCB with ATX dual slot bracket
  • Dimensions: 6 Layer / (4.4 in x 7.8 in) (~20 CM in length)
  • Total power consumption: 150W max
That's more than a GTX 1060 6GB. (there are 2 GTX 1060's, one with 3GB and one with 6GB. I think you'd get a unanimous vote here for the 6GB version, even though it's only ~6% faster than the 3GB version)
I can't find a picture of what the inside of that case looks like, but my concern is that optical drive limiting the length available for a GPU.

After considering the size of your case, and the ventilation of the case, I'd recommend something like an EVGA single fan GPU, like:

Notice that no one's recommending anything from AMD? AMD really doesn't have anything in this performance range with the power constraints that we have with your system.

GTX 1050 Ti 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB

That's my new card, which was an upgrade from GTX950.
From a personal experience I would suggest another ITX-version, like Zotac or MSI Aero. My EVGA gets super-loud during gaming. Almost unbearable comparing to any card I've ever had (except probably GTX275 and HD2900XT).
