Upgrading to i7-875k and 8gb ddr3 1600 - what do you think??

so within the next weeks, im upgrading to i7-875k and 8gb ddr3 1600. is this a good upgrade for me?? also thinking maybe a better ssd??

EDIT: due to the i7-875k being virtually unavailable except for in package deals or at insane prices, I am going to grab a 870 for now till availablity gets better (if it does, some say yes some say no) and another 4gb of mushkin radioactive set (timings match mine, and they dont sell my redlines anymore) and an ASUS P7P55WS Super computer with the nf200 chip, for future tri sli

30 gb is a bit low so i'd upgrade the ssd but do you really need to buy the k edition - i though it was more expensive then the standard addition and by your username i would assume you have no problems with overclocking

I want the K cpu because they have MUCH better memory dividers due to being unlocked. i have a 655k now it it has 10 mem dividers whereas the 650 only has like 4-6 and it makes stability and memory tweaking much more possible. its worth the extra to me. the unlocked multi is nice but not a huge deal to me. I was thinking like a 128gb ssd but I dont want to spend a ton, maybe even 60gb/80gb

A memory shortage while gaming? Now that doesnt sound right. Id still suggest on getting a bigger/better ssd than another kit of ram.

you either have a lot of background programs or your memory shortages are caused by the 2gb memory caps a lot of non native 64 bit games run on

It has an industrial look, but I really liked mine. Excellent layout, and solid airflow. Lot's of room to work inside the case.

At this point in time I've got to ask why?

Sandy Bridge will be back in about a month or two and we should be on the verge of Bulldozer launch at that time too. In either case upgrading 1156 now seems like a setup for a disappointment to me.

Ram = so-so upgrade tho` Tom`s are now recommending that 8gb is the sweet spot for ram.

Honestly, coming from an 875K user, the 875K is not worth the money one bit. The memory divider thing is a non-issue, I just built a machine with an i5 760 and it offers the same memory dividers as my 875K. And unless you are using extreme cooling, they all overclock about the same, unlocked multiplier or not.

Save the cash and go with the 870, it offers the same memory dividers. Or even better, ditch hyperthreading and just go with an i5 760. My clocked to 4GHz is a total beast.

Sata 2 controller fiasco or not, why even bother with older technology. I remember when bulding my first P4 while DualCore has already been around. I was head banging some time then.

In my book Sandy Bridge offers some much more comparing to first generation i7, i5 or i3. Buy yourself P67P8 Pro board from Asus with four Sata 3 ports which are unaffected by this Cougar Point flaw. Gigabyte is offering money back or board replacement in April. I doubt any will have problems till then.

Other than that comparing first gen 4 core i7 cpu to second gen is like day and night. I would go for Sandy Bridge if I were you.

Because he already has the rest of the setup, a simple processor upgrade is much easier than a whole plaform upgrade. Especially when upgrading to sandybridge wouldn't really give that much of a performance difference over an i7 800.

The 760 can run 1600mhz ram @ 133bclk? I do not think so! 870 just as good as 875k, I DO think so, here's mine on AIR:

If you don't care so much about using a lot of SATA ports, you could actually ash in on the Sandy Bridge fiasco and pick up a combo cheap.
