Just wanted to warn the forum users of a pending issue with the Uplay store. Before Easter break, many customers, myself included, experienced problems trying to buy games on Uplay. The Anno 1800 game, was just released, and many had hoped to be able to play the game during Easter break. But due to an unknown issue, the purchase transaction failed. After filling out the CC form and clicking buy, we got a "404 page not found", no download available and no entry in the order history. No other explanation of what happened, or what the issue was. This lead to many trying a second time, thinking they filled out the CC info wrong, but the same thing would occur again. Trouble is that our credit cards were charged every time. Well, technically the cash were reserved on our cards, so hopefully the funds will be released back to us automatically. Anyway, tickets were submitted using their support system, and now up to 8-9 days later for some, we still haven't heard from Ubisoft. Many threads&posts over at their forums, and lots of complaints at the Uplay reddit. Seems like the issue isn't isolated to Anno either.

To be fair, the issues with Uplay and other stores is that problems like this are common. I've never had a problem on GOG and the one time I had a problem on Steam, they fixed it in less than 24hours, apologized for the problem and let me know what had happened. Other stores have a habit of ignoring problems until there are a bunch of them. I get clients bringing their system in all the time thinking their PC's are having an issue when it is in fact the stores. EA is especially bad at passing off the problem to the customer and defaulting to "It must be a problem with your PC" shpeal. So it's really not an "all or nothing" viewpoint.

Dispute the charges with your credit card company/bank immediately. Never wait in situations like this.

They shouldn't charge twice because your account can only have one key for a game. Holds have deadlines on them so the holds should clear and only one charge actually be billed.

On that tip, I did too, but...regrets:

...no one should want to buy directly from Ubisoft. This is so extremely anti-consumer. I haven't clicked accept and I really don't want to. I'm pondering a refund but knowing how much of a PITA that will be... :banghead:

Origins is part of May's humble monthly and is $11.99 US plus you get more games too.
It's incomplete. Gold edition is $30.

That's the way the ACH system works. Big transactions are processed in batches and quickly (because all parties signed contracts--you with your credit card company or PayPal). Small transactions are settled separately and have mandatory holds involved so either party can dispute it before it's finalized.

You realize that this is predominately a credit card thing, right? That money frequently has a multi-day hold on it by banks.

As long as you are blaming the banking system then we are in agreement, because that is where the blame lies. I agree, I’ve always felt it is a bit sucky to have to wait to get my money credited back.

I think this is being blown out of proportion. So it takes 8-9 days, get up to speed on the concept of work days because there was an Easter weekend in between them as well. So we're really talking about 3-4 days at best.

Patience, young gwasshoppa...

I consider Ubisoft to be in the entertainment industry. When do we have the time to be entertained? During office hours? In 2019 I do expect a big company like Ubisoft to have at least a skeleton crew working at support, if only to let us know they are working on it, and maybe stop accepting orders until it is fixed? It's hard to tell how many were affected by this, but the reports kept coming over many days. Well, lesson learned, Uplay-> uninstalled :)

Edit: just checked my bank account, and the reservation is gone now

Then you need to adjust your expectations, anything else is simply your loss. After all, you did want to play this content right? Now you're saying your own impatience denies you the opportunity to do so.

Realistic expectations go a long way and you have no idea who was affected by this, the numbers involved or the cause of the problem. What's a skeleton crew going to do? Send an automated email... to....? What group? You need to do a detailed impact analysis anyway, and the only other alternative is handling each request on its own, which a skeleton crew can't do either.

If you want real customer service, accept the fact it may take some time. Impatience gets you just about nowhere. My experience with Ubisoft service has been pretty good, but then I know better than to expect immediate response during a holiday.

Ubisoft has no idea when you have 'time to be entertained', because the way you deal with your time is your own problem entirely. I smell entitlement and it stinks, I'd suggest you reflect on that for your own good.

I consider myself to be a fairly patient man. But, I don't get this, you go to try buy something online on the internet, you fill in your CC info, click "Buy" and get a "404 page not found", and that's it. Money gone. No confirmation email, no product received, no trace of the transaction anywhere besides in your bank account. You complain, and complete silence for more than 8-9 days. This is fine from a big company? If so, yes, I guess we have different expectations :)

For me it only was ~$60, but for some it was $120. For some that may be the last money on their account. And the reason for my thread on this issue is that it seems like it's still a problem: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/2041426-Game-is-not-in-Uplay-Client-after-purchase/page15

Cheers :toast:

For some perspective, I purchased The Division 2 on the client the night before last, and had zero issues with the purchase, so it is obviously not something that is affecting everyone (as evidenced also by @FordGT90Concept purchase above).
