looking into a new gpu and while I am plenty capable of reading reviews to determine which is best for me, I was wondering if anyone knew of any gpu's other than 4870, 4890, 5770, gtx260, gts250, and 5830 that fell in this range.

for instance if anyone knew of a gtx275,280 in this range and where I could get it, etc.

I would keep the 9600 gt and use it as a Physx card and not sell it at all it is worth about 45.00.

picked up a new in box unopened EVGA GTX275 Co-op physx edition for 212$ off of ebay.
so we'll see if I have to change my board for the physx to work. but the fact that it includes arkum asylum is nice and having physx onboard will be an interesting combo. plus you can't beat new in box and the seller is sending the original purchase receipt so that I can register the card for the lifetime warranty.

so 45$ would be fine to sell the card for then if I need to change to an sli supporting mobo. especially since I could sell my current board for 30-40$ and between the two come up with enough for said sli supporting mobo.

Your current mobo is plenty fine, you don't need a SLI mobo for that card. You could probably get $45 for the 9600GT, so it's up to you to decide if it's worth selling it

oh noes! so I had a few bids still going, judging by how I'd been outbid on everythign else I figured these would go the same.

well now I have 2 cards coming

the EVGA GTX275 CO-OP PhysX edition -new in box -paid 212$
and an EVGA GTX295 CO-OP FTW edition -used. paid 269$

judging by amazon I can sell both for more than I paid, it's just a consideration of how much I can get for either and which will move easier (ie will new in box entice over the faster card or will the faster card move easier simply due to it's prowess as a chipset).

umm crap

So it seems my timing on ebay to get a gtx470 was simply poor, I just won one.

so lets recap

6/26 won EVGA GTX 275 Co-op new in box -212$
6/28 won EVGA GTX 295 Co-op FTW edition - used - 269$
7/1 won MSI GTX 470 - new in box - 280$

now obviously I only need 1 card and yes perhaps rather dumb of me to do so much bidding, but that's why I have an amazon seller account because people on amazon simply pay more (hence me beign able to sell a 1.5 year old HD 2900XT for 200$ when it wasn't worth 100$).

but I'm quite positive I'm selling the 275 co-op, a nice novelty but far slower for the price paid here.

but between the GTX 470 and the 295 which would you keep? The 295 is faster by a decent margin but lacks dx11 support or a warranty.

I would keep the 470, performance shouldn't be an issue as it should be able to play basically eveyrthing maxed out anyways.

Thanks guys, based on performance I think those recomending the gtx 295 are right. The 470's dx11 support would be nice but I don't plan on waiting as long between upgrades this time.

update so all cards recived and gtx295 currently in my rig.

the gtx275 co-op just sold for 320 on amazon (I get 298$ after amazon's comission and shipping). considering they were 350 at launch and I paid 212 for it, not bad eh?

now here's my dilemma, the gtx 470 is here and listed on amazon as new/other the outside packaging had been opened by the previous owner but the card remained undisturbed.

I'm simply having a hard time seeing the differce between new/other and used like new if you get my drift.

it would really be a pity to have a dx11 card in house and never get to run heaven in dx11 mode or try out any of the other pr dx11 benches.

idk

what do you think it's on amazon for 305$, they sell for 350$ new, do you think that 45$ drop will also apply to used-like new?

Don't open the card, it will devalue it and you won't see a difference because DX11 is not a big change for now. You know I would know how many cards have I owned.

thanks, sometimes you just have these cravings lol. it seems a few hours of world in conflict with eveythign maxxed out did the trick. I do have to say the single pcb gtx 295's are awesome cards. takes everything I throw at it, runs cool (60c average load temp on both cores), and represents the 3rd fastest chipset currently.

Hilarious! I guess I'm going to be selling stuff on Amazon in the future. I sure was getting tired of the $50 offers for my GTX 260 on Craigslist.

yeah i've always had luck on amazon, people trust it more and less people are looking for the best deal of their lives. Most on there just want the item and have saved to buy it. Amazon sellers are presumed more reliable (and by far they are) and amazon has a much stronger presence in the sale than ebay or cl.

My wife keeps telling me to swap from IT service to retail for this reason. lol

update: GTX 295 shipped, testing the msi gtx470 now, thus far mixed feelings, runs way hotter and offers way less performance, but... overclocks like a champ, 839 core 1678 shader, 1839 mem
