The US military has launched 103 miniature swarming drones from a fighter jet during a test in California.

Three F/A-18 Super Hornets were used to release the Perdix drones last October.

The drones, which have a wingspan of 12in (30cm), operate autonomously and share a distributed brain.

A military analyst said the devices, able to dodge air defence systems, were likely to be used for surveillance.

Skip to the 2:20 mark to see them all flying. It's kinda creepy.

That would be epic for distracting targets as covert agents on the ground move in.

The noise they make is quite creepy :D Not sure what purpose would they serve other than terrify enemy though...

Well they can spy on targets, the noise is probably a lot lower in single\small numbers. I hope this was done on freindly ground so less chance China stealing them for them selves, ya would think America should know that China will steal any thing it can get it's hands on lol.

Even more stupid is that this video was released.

Other thoughts could be to disable different kinds of communication.

The US military puts videos like this up all the time. I think they do it when it has been declassified. This test took place months ago (October 25).

TNot sure what purpose would they serve other than terrify enemy though...

Put a small bomb/grenade on each of them?
