usb 3.0 front header only works on one side.

i tried every thing to get both usb 3 ports to work but one side of the header is dead . i tried in two different cases and three different usb 3 front panels re installed the drivers nothing works. any ideas? pus i have another problem that is described in this thread http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...e-conflict-in-device-manager&country=&status= i wonder if it is connected to the usb 3 problem.

The connector is on the motherboard right? Get a bright flashlight and a magnifying glass and look into the connector. I had the same problem once before and it was caused by a bent pin inside the connector. Those pins are rather thin and bends more easily than older USB 1.x and 2.0 header pins.

i have done that and all pins are ok. i have googled the problem a few times and there are a few people with the same problem just no fixes.

U have 2 options. Either swap that motherboard out or wait for asus to do a bios update on it...

Are you using the latest BIOS (looks to be 1703).
I ask because, the two before (1605 & 1503) contain some USB compatibility fixes.

Check in device manager to see if there are any problems with the USB section... you may need to check in the menu the "show hidden devices"

Are you using the latest AMD chipset drivers --> AMD Chipset Drivers

You may, also, want to update your Asmedia USB drivers. You can find them here at StationDrivers. Check to be sure you get the right ones for your Asmedia chip.

Just a thought; if you want to test further... You could try making a cd/dvd Linux distro; and, test to see if the USB ports work then.

Lots of Asus boards have this issue, Intel and AMD alike.

Gigabyte as well. On both my GA-P67A-UD4 and GA-Z77X-UD5H one side of the USB front header is sketchy; Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. 3 Different cased too.

Are you using any of the ASUS utilities; like, AI Suite , AIChargerPlus, USB 3.0 Boost, and EPU.
If you are, try un-installing them and see if the ports will work.
Also, have you tried turning off the power management in the properties of the host controllers in the device manager & power options?

Try this, too.
1. Open device manager and uninstall all ASMedia XHCI Controllers
2. Go to control panel, programs and features, uninstall Asmedia ASM104x USB 3.0 Host Driver
3. Download Ghostbuster (use the msi file or portable... don't use the Clickonce installer... it wanted to offer other stuff), install and run. Check for ghost of ASmedia USB and select them and remove ghosted devices. Here is the Short Manual for GhostBuster
4. Re-boot and see if it recognizes your Asmedia usb host and installs drivers for them.
If not, download the ASmedia host controller driver and install it yourself.

the only asus utilities i use is gpu tweak and i don't think its a driver problem i think its a hardware problem

Probably is.
After looking at the 8 ball... seems it affects any motherboard with the ASmedia chip, just joking about the 8 ball.
Seriously, there are posts all over the net about this problem on MBs from Intel, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, etc. and it seems not to hit everyone, but when it hits it is hard to get 'em working again.
So, I believe ASmedia has some explaining to do; or, at least, get some engineers on addressing this dilemma.

I remember NEC/Renesas having a similar problem; but, with drop outs in the first chipsets when USB 2.0 came out, but fixed it eventually with driver and firmware updates.

Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you... hope it gets fixed.
