My friend wants to get some headphones for her Xbox360. After looking at the dismall choices I was just wondering if any USB powered headset will work.

No, you need a headset made specifically for the xbox 360. Take a look at the Turtle Beach website (just google it.) They have anything from just a normal headset that combines the game audio with the chat, all the way up to full on surround sound headphones (which are awesome if you want to spend the cash) that will allow you to hear people behind you and such. A huge advantage in multiplayer games.

You have to use the 360 headset (connects to the controller) if you want voice communication.
