USB Pin Adapter

Hey guys!
Long time - no txt!

I just ordered a 3.5" Card reader for my rig.
But because both of my usb pin connectors on my motherboard are already in use, i just wanted to know, if there is anny adapter, that allows me to connect 2 - 1.
Or maybee to connect the card reader to my ide connector? :confused:

Maybee some1 of you experts can help me!

No to the 1st one and absolutely not to the 2nd one. Try to find a USB expansion card that has a USB pin header, like this one. The options you mentioned will not work and may result in damaged material.

If he has one of the separate pin or parallel 4/5-pin USB connectors for the internal USB headers he could just decommission one of his USB ports in exchange for hooking up the card reader.

@↓_JP_ - There's a decent chance his card reader has a standard USB female port on it (many do), so ultimately he might not lose a port.

@de.das.dude: The only ghetto way to do this would be to make a cable with a 4-pin header on one side and a Male USB Type A connector on the other side to connect to a regular USB port on the back or the front of the case. If it were to be well done, grounded and everything, it would work. If the cables were messed up during welding, it would possibly fry both ends.

@streetfighter2: sure, that would be the 1st thing to come to mind, but it seems OP wants to keep all the current stuff connected. :ohwell:

It's easy to rectify double posts. Edit the 1st one and delete the 2nd.

that says it has a header that takes over from the internal port but like the Newegg cards i cant seem to see the header just the internal port

problem with ebay is the prices can often be more then what the items cost new

Problem with fleebay is your products are not always warranteed (the seller might say they are but if the seller is not an approved seller by the manufacturer, the manufacturer can refuse to honor the warranty) and most times shipping is more than what Newegg charges (for me anyways)

Soldering isn't the problem, if you have the skills, it's the header itself. What is the orientation of the header and does the card have the lanes for it. Orientation should be solved by finding where the dummy pin is. Good luck finding it with no board labels, though. I've seen USB cards with that VIA chip in all possible orientations, and with various arrangements for the ports. If the card has the lanes connection to it, neat, it means you could try and solder the header, if not, it means they have used a standard base cut-out card and arranged the lanes as they needed. No big surprise.
It's your call, really. If you want to be worry free, go for the one with the 9-pin header already installed, if your that adventurous kind of guy that likes a challenge and have extra pocket money, go for the one that has the holes for the header.
