Using Nighthawk R7000 on network with Cisco switch and router

High all! I'm a bit new to the network admin world. I'm trying to build a home lab and experimenting with a few things to gain more experience with Cisco configs and different topologies. Has anyone tried to setup a network with a Cisco router and switch, using a consumer wireless router (Nighthawk R7000 in my case) as just an AP? I would like it to use the Cisco router's DHCP server, etc.

My idea is to create separate VLANs on the switch to separate out traffic for IoT devices and general home office equipment. I will likely end up with 2 separate routers/APs to broadcast different SSIDs (the IoT one hidden). I haven't tried VLANs on the Nighthawk, but what I saw seemed pretty limited. Any helpful tips or links to info while I search would be helpful!

Physical mapping:
ISP modem --> Cisco router --> Cisco switch --> Netgear router in AP mode?
