Valve leaks steam player counts

Valve had a hole in the API which allowed accurate player counts for all the games on Steam to gathered. The total player counts for some games are quite surprising many games have much lower numbers than I would have expected like GTA:V

But out of the top 1000 most played games on Steam I have a total of 66 of them.

Wonder how accurate that is. Was watching a video for Insurgency Sandstorm last month and the developers mentioned the first game sold 1 million copies, including sales. I am pretty sure that included the ones sold via humble bundle specials. Yet this shows 6 million.

Have to take into consideration that given the option, many folks will avoid Steam ... and many also, like mysefl, won't invest in Steam Only games.

The data is total users who own the game, but I'm pretty sure it only counts people who have at least one Steam achievement. It is not currently active/concurrent player counts.

It's also worth noting Steam Achievements can be faked.

Good to see a lot of people still own/play L4D2. Killing floor on the other hand I cant say im really surprised. KF2 is a fun game but KF1 was vastly better in some ways. KF2 has fun maps but so does KF1, both have a strong modding community but KF1 has a lot more content when it comes to choice of weapons which KF2 doesnt really have and thats where I think KF2 kind of failed. theyve added a few more classes and weapons but I still think they could of done a lot more...

No surprise with TF2 though. that game is F2P and very easy to run on a lot of laptops and macbooks.

also im afraid it does take in consideration not active accounts or banned ones, accounts that still no longer valid since arent or cant be used for gaming

insurgency is a interesting game that might need a better marketing or advising, im glad that i have heard and see rumors about less hacking and cheating on insurgency, that makes me happy ..

Robocraft had an incredible 10 mil players. This was an indie game developed by a small team. Granted, it was free to play, but that is pretty damn good market exposure. Then developers made some terrible decisions on that game, today it sits at 1,500 players average on Steam Chart. Pretty sad.

I have both. I always prefered the original game. The art style just felt more impressive then L4D2's 'cartoony'ness' --- Or maybe it was because L4D had a lot more darker maps/shades so as a whole the map design gave off a more intense desperate survival feeling??

L4D2 was fun but it just didnt seem to hold the crowd as long as the original. I bet there were a lot more L4D players than L4D2 players back in the day.
