I'm waiting for RX550 and RX560 reviews - they're so much more important than these two (especially with Ryzen already available).
I kind of hoped that RX550 will be passively cooled by most vendors. Based on the power consumption of RX580 vs RX480, I'm not that optimistic any more... :/

You know, 5 FPS on ultra settings with SMAA in Crysis 3 minimal frame rates is HUGE. Let's better say it's 5 % faster than stock RX480.

Personally i think this is the worst AMD release of all time! This is even worse than R9 390X release to replace R9 290X. At least that one had sense in the increased VRAM. Wait till you see 4 GB RX580 versions, that will be a joke

I think it's a "okay" release, because now the GPUs are all running high frequencies and for people that don't own a RX 480 it's a absolutely buyable GPU for that price. It's also nice for RX 480 users because they can use the bios of RX 580 to "upgrade" their own card. But I'm gonna repeat it: I saw a ~10% increase in performance (@ TPU), Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 vs stock RX 480. Still more than 5%.

According to techpowerup and anandtech RX580 reviews, it is respectively 6 % and 3 % faster than RX480 at full HD. Do not exaggerate guys with 9 % and 10 %...

580 and 570 are indeed what should be called as 485 and 475, but marketeers are the ones who decide how a product should be called to sell more.

Nevertheless, it is indeed a refresh (improved manufacturing process allowing higher core clocks) and not just a rebrand as the premium models surpass 1500MHz now while with RX480s most reach about 1400-1420. And they are to be sold in the same price as RX4X0 series, so it is better also for customers.

I want to talk about GTX1060 VS RX480 VS RX580

1. Here is Tom's review of RX 580, in which 11 games have been tested in both 1080P and 1440P resolutions.

I have calculated the first, second and third places for all the cards in all of those games. If the difference is less than 1 FPS, i consider it a tie, but watch minimal FPS then. And here is how it looks:

RX 580: 1 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 1
GTX 1060: 2 3 1 3 1 2 1 2 1 3 2
RX 480: 3 2 3 2 3 3 3 2 2 2 3

While clearly RX 580 dominates the benchmark, GTX 1060 had more second places, and RX 480 had more third places; also RX 480 never had any first places, while GTX 1060 had four of them. In one game GTX 1060 and RX 480 tie; in another game RX 480 and RX 580 tie, so i wrote double same number places in these instances. This is direct evidence that RX 480 is no match for GTX 1060, but RX 580 is just barely faster than GTX 1060.

2. Here is Eurogamer review of RX 580, in which 8 games have been tested in both 1080P and 1440P resolutions.

It's not a big deal to take a look at the results and calculate the wins. If the difference is less than 1 FPS, i consider it a tie, and there are no minimal FPS.

1080P RX 580: 2 1 1 1 2 1 1 1
1080P GTX 1060: 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
1080P RX 480: 3 2 2 2 3 2 2 3

Once again the same picture at 1080P - RX 580 leading, with only in 2 games out of 8 falling behind GTX 1060. GTX 1060 ties RX 580 or losses to it in half the games (50/50 %). However, RX 480 never wins, only manages to tie GTX 1060 in 3 games and looses in 5 games.

1440P GTX 1060: 1 2 1 2 2 2 2 2
1440P RX 480: 3 2 2 2 3 3 3 3

The picture does not change much at 1440P - RX 580 now leads even more, with only in one game falling behind GTX 1060. GTX 1060 beats RX 480 in 6 games out of 8 with 2 ties.

3. Here is Anandtech review of RX 580, in which 9 games have been tested in both 1080P and 1440P resolutions.

The results of 8 games match in both 1080P and 1440P, except in Hitman, where there is a difference between 1080P and 1440P for RX 480, RX 580 and GTX 1060:

1080P & 1440P GTX 1060: 1 1 1 1 1 1 3 1 1 (2)
1080P & 1440P RX 580: 2 2 1 2 2 2 1 2 2 (1)
1080P & 1440P RX 480: 3 3 1 3 3 3 2 3 2 (3)

According to Anandtech GTX 1060 CLEARLY beats RX 580 in 6 out of 9 games with 3 ties. RX 480, on the other hand, only manages to be equal in one game, and loses to GTX 1060 in ALL games.

4. Here is Hardware Unboxed quote: "previously GTX 1060 6 GB was 12 % faster at 1080P and 1440P, but now it is only 1 % faster" - this comparison is not apple to apple, since different games were being used when GTX1060 6 GB was 12 % faster versus when GTX1060 6 GB was just 1 % faster.

So...

RX 480 is still clearly behind GTX 1060. But how do you interpret RX 580 VS GTX 1060? Does that look like a tie to you or what? I trust Anandtech the most, since they are the only ones who had the balls to test stock RX 580 VS stock GTX 1060. Tom's Hardware and Eurogamer used overclocked RX 580 cards, stock RX 480 and stock GTX 1060 cards. Anandtech used all stock cards.

Any thoughts on this?

I tell you this: I'm not in to buy a midrange card, but I would easily prefer the 1060 then because it consumes so much less power. "Efficiency" of Polaris now is all over the place while 1060 is simply a neat little GPU. I'm sorry for AMD to say this, but it's my honest opinion.

I want to talk about GTX1060 VS RX480 VS RX580

imo the 1060 6GB and RX 580 are pretty evenly matched. The 1060 6GB overclocks significantly better though for people that would want to.

One thing that I think Nvidia screwed up with is the naming. The 1060 6GB should have been called a 1060 Ti because some people think that the GPU in the 1060 3GB is the same as in the 1060 6GB and only the VRAM is a different amount. The 6 GB GPU has 11% more cores than the 3 GB GPU.

no regrets getting my 480 last summer, 580 would be ok, but def not upgrade worthy from my standpoint. I dont mind ref model either as mine is power target and custom fan controlled, never goes above 75C with 3200rpm fan speed

No it was actually very smart, they did it to deceive people and so far it's a big success. Most people really think 1060 3g is the same. So they buy a defective gpu, 10% slower and for Nvidia it's a win-win situation.

It's nothing new on NVIDIA's policy. I remember some 32 bit bus made GF 7300 video cards, even though they were supposed to be 64 bit bus. I think i even remember some GF FX5200 made on 64 bit bus, although the standard was 128 bit bus, and even that was a total shit as we all now remember.

imo,the 580 is in a performance league with 2-3 year old NVidia GPU's(i.e 9xx), but it Cant be theyre "top of the line" card ...... there must be a 590? or is it gonna be another "Pro duo" diaper sandwich?(AMD"Light on the innovation, Heavy on the mediocre gpu") sad part is i like AMD, ive only owned 4 or 5 Nvidia GPU's, the rest have been AMD.

No, HBM2 should return with Vega in a month or so and Vega might be something that will interest you in AMD GPUs again.
