I now have 2x 1920x1080 Quantum dot 125% sRGB, 144hz, freesync monitors and a rx 580

Doom runs very well but wanted to try a vega 56 since not all games are as easy as Doom.

Same card as my rx 580 but vega 56, it gave me 200fps in doom at ultra but temps went up to 82-83c and my custom fancurve went above 50% sometimes over 60% and that was too much for my taste.

Vega 56 ran with my i5-8400 in the 80's to 99% in either project cars 2 or doom, what a disapointing results although 200fps in doom is more than okay.

I guess i have to wait until next year if i want more fps, but for how long?

I dont understand what the problem is here. You bought a vega56 to replace the 580 but tried it on a different system?

As far as I can understand his problems are temps/noise,in which case it's no surprise cause Vega is power hungry and hot. Get nitro+ or nvidia.

His specs say he's got a 1080.

I have heard that amd is gonna release some cards this year but some say it's there pro cards.

Not main stream gaming cards

Im interested when amd is gonna release new main stream gaming cards and to se if theres something in the vega 56/64 and if they can run with better temps, lower tdp than the vega 56/64

ya they are workstation cards only not for gaming...

that being said i am in no rush to upgrade. winter 2019 for me, AMD 7nm cpu and gpu combo. thats my next build. gtx 1070 laptop until then.

You can't se if it's a rx 580 or vega 56

Do you thing it will take amd almost as long as nvidia to release new main stream gaming cards in the rx 570/580, vega 56/64 range? (something faster to replace the rx 570/580 and vega 56/64)

Navi in 2019 if all the stars align.

Other than that, you're screwed.

I cannot understand how this was such a hard question to begin with, but there it is - this takes all of 2 seconds on Google btw ;)

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with your card. That´s never a nice feeling. Vega is running hot on air, did you try UV it just a bit? Might help with fan noise.
And I have to ask:
Vega 56 ran with my i5-8400 in the 80's to 99% in either project cars 2 or doom, what a disapointing results although 200fps in doom is more than okay.
What do you mean with that sentence? Your Vega runs at 80°C-99°C or 80% usage to 99% usage or 80°C @ 99% usage? Because what more can you want from your GPU then to run at 99%? Every card will run at max. usage if you don´t have a limiter like fps cap or CPU bottleneck.

New gaming oriented cards from AMD will be a while from now I think. And I can only hope for a 7nm miracle, or else I don´t see AMD trying high end sector ever again in the GPU department. Best they can do is low budget oriented, since they can not compete with nvidia atm. Sadly :/

80-99% gpu usage, even when i did get more fps i wasn't running the vega 56 at 99-100% usage.

Despite the gpu not being utilized, used 99-100% it got so hot that the fans was to noisy (for my taste) with my silent custom fan curve, unless i wanted to use different cooling solution (warranty) i could only make the card hotter (90c?) or more noisy (higher fan speed).

The 3 strix fans are good enough for the rx 580 not the vega 56/64.

I just tried a simple UV of less than 100mv around 50mv, when it got hot in doom (lot's going on), my card froze, i had to reboote a couple of times or 3 before i sat the core voltage back to 0%.

With my asus strix rx 580 8gb top i can set core voltage to -75mv without doom crashing or freezing

Here they managed to uv a vega 56 from 1200mv to 1025mv gamersnexus

yes,vega is hot,should've googled it.
if you can return it then go for the nitro version, sapphire cooling is quiet.
your sig says gtx 1080, is this on your secondary pc ?

Next consumer gpus will be navi and will be released next year. Since navi will be last iteration of GCN architechture personally if i would have to upgrade now i would be considering two things: choice between 580 8GB and vega 56 or 64, depending on price, other thing would be to wait for gpus after navi as they will be new, not GCN anymore architecture which will be released probably in 2020.

I did know it was hot.

How ever hot it got, i knew it was a card that easily could be used with a 650 watt psu like i have.

So a video where the vega 56 got over 50% more fps in bf 1 1080p compared to a rx 580 and i knew shadow of the tomb raider is not as easy as doom, so i wanted to try a vega 56 (didn't thought the difference in bf 1 would be that big).

RX VEGA 56 vs RX 580

I got more fps but more heat and noise, it wasn't worth the price difference, the sapphire card is much more expensive than the already expensive asus strix vega 56.

Honestly you should just keep your 580 and maybe Crossfire it, since you have Freesync monitors anyway you shouldn't notice to many issues, and most AAA games will support crossfire, and at 1080p freesync, you might have turn down a couple settings but most can probably stay at high.

Then wait for 7nm AMD cards late next year or in 2020.

to be frank I understand his disappointment a little bit. When I upgraded from 980 to 980ti I could easily see the difference, but the heat and noise made it kinda disappointing too. Going for a fast card with good thermals and noise is the only way I could actually be completely satisfied with a new GPU.

by the way, don't use some random videos on yt for your information about video card performance, this guy can post whatever he damn wants. go to a quality source like TPU. I personally use

1.pcgh - my favourite tech site, hands down. wish I had premium and spoke the ein, zwei, drei.polizei language
2.purepc
3.computerbase
4. other quality sources like tpu,guru3d,hardocp,sweclockers and the like

when i watch youtube videos i watch alot of videos, so i have seen alot, i wanted to experience it for my self how a vega 56 is, i just know the card i wanted to try (sapphire vega 56 nitro+) is to expensive more than 10% expensive than a asus vega 56 strix, so much that it's in the price range of used gtx 1080 ti.

The settings i have chosen in shadow of the tomb raider (can't remember them) gives me around 80fps, where ultra in doom i get 144hz sometimes more with my rx 580, vega 56 200fps in doom is not worth 50% more (the asus strix 580 isn't exactly cheap)

lol you can't do it like that. jut cause you have 200 in doom does not mean it'll run at 150 in most games. If you have 80 in tomb raider on vega 56, imagine you'll only have 60 rx580. Vega 56 is a good performance for price card, but if you prefer your card to be cool and quiet it is very hard to achieve, you'd have to undervolt and have a quiet case with great airflow too.

Around 80 fps in sotr with my rx 580, i knew shadow of the tomb raider wouldn't run as good as doom, so a vega 56 with shadow of the tomb raider and bf 1 would run better, atleast 100fps with shadow of the tomb raider,

I still don't know how many fps you get in sotr no matter how many times I read this thread
and the fact that vega is not being fully utilized is down to your CPU. 8400 is a great bang for the buck, but for high refresh gaming you may need an 8600k.

As ever this shits relative, i got a vega 64 waterblocked it, mines quite as hell clocks to 1700 in gaming and runs below 60° flat out, but if i came on here saying all other graphics cards are too noisy, or hot because my One isn't what then.

Other versions of vega 56 definitely have better cooling, Vega (and all other GPU) are made to operate in a high temperature range , this is normal and consistent with every card i pushed to IT'S max.
And various cooling arrangements have now been attached to vega ,try another type brand.
Seams a little trolly ,you list a 1080 after all.

when i watch youtube videos i watch alot of videos, so i have seen alot, i wanted to experience it for my self how a vega 56 is, i just know the card i wanted to try (sapphire vega 56 nitro+) is to expensive more than 10% expensive than a asus vega 56 strix, so much that it's in the price range of used gtx 1080 ti.

The settings i have chosen in shadow of the tomb raider (can't remember them) gives me around 80fps, where ultra in doom i get 144hz sometimes more with my rx 580, vega 56 200fps in doom is not worth 50% more (the asus strix 580 isn't exactly cheap)

I mean, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The RX 580 is a little worse than the GTX 1060 6GB model where as the Vega 56 is a bit better than a GTX 1070 making it vastly superior to the RX 580.

I dont understand what the problem is here. You bought a vega56 to replace the 580 but tried it on a different system?

He doesnt understand that going from a mid range to upper, temps are going to be higher its like going from a 1060 ti to 1070/ti or 1080/ti.

Ahhhhhh ok. Well once you get into the GTX 1070 range (where the Vega 56 comfortably sits) you are always going to have more heat and noise, but that's the trade off; better performance with more heat and noise. Solution? Have a good cooling solution and invest in some nice gaming headphones :)
