So a guy I know down in the US is selling his VEGA graphics cards that were used for mining. He said he will sell me for $200US (so around 250CAD) one of the VEGA's. Didn't specify if it was his 56 or 64. But either or, is this a good price? Should I jump to it? I have a GTX1070 right now but could always use the VEGA for a friend since he uses a GTX 970 right now.

Let me get the first model of it and then I'll send you his way.

He isn't here of course. He operates out of the business we both work for. So it would be wrong of me to give his personal info out without me getting permission first.

Yep, this is a very good price, at stock with a stock cooler and a few tweaks its between a 1070 and a 1070 ti, which are ~$250 and ~350+ respectively
Then with a $60 Morpheus 2 it really shines

I'll find out how many cards he has and when he needs them gone by, and exactly which model. But either way, I'm ordering from him this Friday (payday woohoo!)

OK, so he has both Vega 64's and 56's. He said to me he is OK with selling me the RX Vega 64 at that price so I am going to try and pick up two of them. I also asked him how many he has in stock. Due to time difference between locations plus me working a completely different shift, I have to wait till tomorrow to get more details. I know only some are jumping on it and I don't know exactly how eager he is to sell them and I think its first comes first serve so please don't get mad at me if he says no. But I will ask him and hope he says yes.

This thread is starting to run a blurry line into a BST thread. If there are members attempting to obtain cards through this type of a thread, realize how easy it is to get burned, and that it goes against everything we have tried to put into place to help the members. Keep this in mind before anyone hands over funds to anyone, and if a link to said holder of these cards is delivered, maybe put it in hot deals at the very least, and as a good measure, be sure to demand proof of what you are getting and use payment methods to protect yourself the best you can.

Sneekypeet, completely agree.

I trust this guy as I bought cards from before and so I know but I also understand if others are hesitant and of course, it's always good to be safe. PayPal is best option I suppose right?

Anyway, sorry if it comes off as BST as my initial intention was to know if it was a good deal or not. I have a GTX 1070 as is and was wondering if it was worth it. Sorry if thread devolved into a BST type.

Please mind my cable management. A Couger QBX isn't the greatest for cable management but at least you dont see it with cover on.

Cost me total of $350USD for both the VEGA 64 cards. I am lucky to have friends who buy expensive gear.

Damn, that's a steal. Even though I'm wary of ex-mining cards, it's probably OK.

I was thinking I wanted another 64 for some CrossFire action(especially if one could be had for cheap). But who am I kidding? The one I've got takes up 4 slots. So there's really nowhere to put another one anyway. I mean I could make it happen...if I had to. But I'd have to move the PSU out of the bottom of my case to be able to shove it in the bottom PCI-E x8 slot. That and I've only got a 1000W PSU too...

I hope for your hearing's sake those blower are nothing like the blowers on the two R9 290X's I had, when they spin up, boy they spin up! louder than my bloody hoover, they look same design …. at the price you paid it would be good investment to get better cooler for the card.

the spec's look nice on those cards too

Modding a Vega vBIOS is nigh on impossible. As far as I'm aware you need to be running Linux. Which most miners aren't. And know how to make it so the modded vBIOS gets loaded after the kernel boots. Or something to that effect. I have no idea how Linux works. All I do know is, if you try to boot with a modded vBIOS on a Vega card you get a black screen and nothing else. The card acts like it's dead. And the only(other) way around it is to crack the super-encrypted signature AMD stuck in there. Which has not been done...by anyone...ATM. And isn't likely ever to be. It's a pretty fucked up situation that. But we might as well get used to it. As it's highly likely every AMD card from here on out is going to be similarly locked down. There's the SoftPowerPlay mod...for now though. Which is something at least. Well...not really. But people still think it is. Fact is it doesn't do shit for Vega. Unless your running it on LN2(or maybe a chiller). Which would likely benefit from an extended power limit(and/or some additional voltage). On an ambient cooled Vega though? Higher power limit doesn't do anything when you can't reach a +50% power limit without thermal throttling anyway. And more voltage will just make it thermal throttle even harder. Making it even more impossible to get anywhere near the +50% power limit. Stupid card starts thermal throttling around 40°C. And you ain't keeping the card below that temp wise without LN2(or maybe a chiller).

Oh...and you can also follow Buildzoid's YT vid guide on how to hard mod it for more voltage. Equally pointless on ambient cooling. Or rather worse than pointless on ambient cooling. Highly detrimental to performance on ambient cooling is more like it. Don't try it. Plus I think he's wrong about exactly how you do it. So you'll probably wreck your card in the process. :shadedshu:

I always presume the 2nd to worst case with 2nd hand cards, considering there are certain vega56s that unlock to 64s. Im thinking the bios being modded would affect timings.

I just play it on safe side and rather put a stock bios back on.

Get a pair of EKWB MLC Vega blocks, that would be more than enough to stay cool and perform well
