So they need a 12.5 TFlops, 300Wats gpu to beat a 9.8TFlops, 180W gpu in Vulkan... Not very encouraging, isn't it?
I really hope they get their act together and surprise everyone in a good way though.

so 10% on a game where AMD is faster is really not alot... the vega and the 1080 are going to be trading blows depending on the game... in DOOM vulkan AMD performs excellent, but then in Dishonored 2 is a different story.

View attachment 82093View attachment 82094

Look at the FuryX difference between the two... Arguably DOOM is the best performing AMD game, so if the best case is a 10% victory; then in the games where the Fury X is getting spanked by a 1060, then the Vega will still lose.

+10% without proped driver in a tight case, when the RX480 got at least 5-10% in all games from the release driver till the November released one, means that Vega 10 will get closer to 15-20% over 1080 in Doom 4K at ultra settings, so it is indeed very possible to match it or even surpass it in average in DX11 games and clearly beat it in DX12. 480 wins over 1060 in Doom 4K by 10% with a 3 month old driver setup tested by @W1zzard and so, is just 3-4% on average of all the games behind. After all, if I was responsible for Vega, I wouldn't show all of my cards yet ;)

Hmmmmm......12/26/15 Annual Financials released by AMD to 12/16/16 means not even a year and no new financials yet released by AMD. My math may be hazy, but I'm pretty sure it's not two years.

We still need AMD to release their Annual figures to see how all the stock sales will play out on their yearly financial. Until then it's all speculation and the only thing we have is their last one.

For a thread full of speculation, half truths, made up statistics and the usual nv fans its more true than most of some of the crap posted, but you can just say year to date if you like :)

Honestly I don't see any NV fans. I see a couple of extreme AMD zealots. The rest of the people in here are willing to see both sides of the street and/ or are just interested in presenting facts. Sometimes facts will not be to one side's liking though.

The important thing is we are all here hoping, I'm sure, that Vega can indeed kick some 1080 ass! I for one am looking forward to some real testing, not just leaks that may or may not be skewed.

I don't think you're far off at all - I think it will be a 480 vs 1060 3GB scenario, where the performance numbers will fall similarly in relation to each other.

In all fairness though, the GPU space is moving so nicely compared to CPUs that we are all a bit spoiled at the moment.

It should be telling that AMD is using their "best case scenario" as the benchmark to show people. It's their lack of confidence in all other triple A games that should worry people. I have my depressingly overpriced 1070 so I am not in the market for a GPU but to anyone who is I would not bank on Vega being a savior or to force NVidia to drop prices.

I have much more hope for Zen though partially from benchmarks but also because they scrapped Bulldozer's module design and went back to what worked in the past.

Polaris forced Nvidia to have competitive pricing at the under $300 market, so I will hope for the same with Vega and Intel.

Yeah... I think vega, at maturity, will beat the 1080 by about that margin (take that with a lethal dose of salt LOL).

I also don't think it will happen for 4-6 months.

Vega probably won't release till March, and the first few drivers are going to be meh - so you're looking late april to june before vega its putting full pressure on the 10x series. (I hope I'm wrong, but there isn't even a release date yet).

Vega was shown at the Ryzen sneak peak from AMD.

It will most likely launch with Ryzen or very close to it.

What new Polaris card?

The only 'rumoured' other Polaris card is a dual gpu (yawn) card. Please quote sources for unsubstantiated chuff.

If vega is RX490, it can't be much better in non-Vulcan or non-optimized AMD games than a GTX1080 IMO.

The rumor of a dual GPU comes from Team Greeners who are unable to understand how Polaris can get any better.
With Polaris consumer binned silicon the potential for a whole new SKU exists, and the naming convention suggests that an RX 490 will not be in the upper tier Vega cards.

I think in DX11 and older, and non-AMD optimized (non-Vulkan) games Vega(RX490) competes with the GTX1070 since the RX480 can't touch it.

Soo for what it's worth this late in the thread the respin, yes respin (same gpu swapped node type not size) Polaris will be touching on 10% better largely due to clock increases using the same power budget and will be a 580
Vega(Rage590 I hope ) will definitely bring the 1080ti to market within the next 6 months due to its awesomeness,,, and prices will tumble.
Also many a Titan owner will fume.
Those are my speculations

No they won't. Those that paid the monstrous price for Titan X on Pascal knew fine well what would happen down the line. Got to remember the core count on Titan is 'rumoured' to remain higher than 1080ti and a well cooled (read water) Titan runs mighty fast. FWIW, the 1080ti is the reason I didn't buy a Titan. That and Vega. :D

I think in DX11 and older, and non-AMD optimized (non-Vulkan) games Vega(RX490) competes with the GTX1070 since the RX480 can't touch it.
I don't get you people. You still state that rx 480 can't touch 1070. Yeah that's a fact but it was never meant to touch. RX 480 was released to compete with 970 mid tier cards. not 1070 or 1080. Where did you guys get that information? When AMD was announcing rx 480 they stated that this GPU will be mid range card vr capable. During that time 970 was a mid range card and all equivalent not 1070 nor 1080.
My understanding of rx 490 showing up is quite simple. AMD realized that Vega is way more capable of beating 1080 or hopefully titan. That's why they are releasing rx 490( not Vega) to fit in the NOW DAYS mid tier segment which is 1070 which makes rx 480 drop to lower segment.
