Vertical Ghosting Lines on ViewSonic Gaming Monitor

Hi guys,

Recently I bought a brand new ViewSonic VX2758-P-MHD 27-inch 1080p 144Hz 1ms TN gaming monitor. This is the first time I own a product from ViewSonic.

Now if I scroll vertically fast, I can see some annoying ghosting lines:

Same in games too when scrolled quickly:





I tried several PCs, several DisplayPort and HDMI 2.0 cables (all certified), different power cords and outlets, and messing around with all OSD settings.

It gets a lot worse if I set the response time to "Ultra Fast", or enable FreeSync/G-Sync, or set a lower refresh rate like 50hz/60hz.

The users' reviews for that monitor are extremely positive on both Amazon and ViewSonic website.

Update: I already tried to RMA that monitor, but their technician claimed it is not defective or anything.

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this kind of problem with ViewSonic monitors. Should I request a refund, or insist on a replacement?

Wow, that vid gave me a headache.

Does it do it in any other apps/programs?
Have you tried other browsers?
Try it at different frequencies. (60 or whatever options you have)
What video source (GPU) are you using? Try a different one if possible.

Also, Nvidia Control Panel hub has a setting called “Noise Reduction.” It is recommended turning this setting off to avoid ghosting or other image artifacts.

Does it do it when the system is booting too ?.

Just when scrolling quickly and/or making sudden vertical screen movements. Horizontal movements are fine.

I would try that monitor on another computer and if the same thing - return it. Don't spend time messing with it and risk voiding the warranty or "no questions asked" return policy.

If it's actually as bad as your screenshot (or photo?) shows, then there is something seriously wrong.
But if the picture isn't accurate and the ghosting isn't as pronounced, then it could be inverse ghosting. And if that is the case, setting the response time in the OSD to a slower value should fix it.

Update monitor's firmware, gpu driver and check with different hdmi/dp/whatever monitor cable.
If these still do not solve the problem boot any linux distro from usb stick and check if same behavior is in there as well. If problem exists also under linux then it is not a software issue but rather hardware.

Also read online about this specific monitor if there are any settings in its menu that may conflict each other and cause such thing.

It's not that bad, most of the lines you see is from the camera.

There are vertical lines ghosting when scrolling up/down really fast.

I'm not sure if its a defect, or just a flawed design. That's why I'm asking.

I've had an business Samsung monitor with the same ghosting effect. But this suppose to be a gaming monitor so WTF.

Update: reduced the fresh rate to 60hz and it got brutal. The monitor is just defective.

Got the monitor back… same one and in the same condition.

According to their technician, it was tested and found to be working fine. No problem detected.

Does anyone have gaming experience with ViewSonic monitors? For me, this is very visible.

They insist its not an issue, but yet offered a refund.

I agree with DeathtoGnomes. However, if me, I sure would like to see the monitor working on one of their test machines.

Maybe it did look good in their shop. If so, why? Good power? Different interface? Cable? Of if you see the problem there, you can point it out to them. Just make sure you go in without making it look like you are accusing them or blaming them.

I already ruled out every possibility. Their labs are pretty far from my location, otherwise I'd go there to see for myself.

Really don't know what their problem. If its defective, just replace it, if not, well, offer to exchange for a better model.

And yet, the problem is still there. So there's clearly at least one possibility left. And if not on your end, then where?

If their facilities are too far, then it seems you have no choice but to take them up on your offer and hope the new monitor does not display the same problem.

That's pretty clear too. The vast majority of Viewsonic users are not experiencing these problems.

I say it often but it is still important to note that until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, even the best makers of the best models can produce a unit that fails to meet specs, or fails prematurely.

Nobody (except maybe that tech) is saying otherwise.

Try turning off black frame insertion or 1ms mode whatever its called on your model

There is a 1ms mode, but it drops the brightness to extreme levels (100 cd/m²). Too dark to be used and still doesn't help with the vertical ghosting.
