Hi all,

So I was lucky enough to get a hold of Reference 6800XT for about $1500 CAD a few days ago and sold my RX580 for $500.

Old

New

However I think I would like to Side mount the GPU and slap an AIO on instead of the reference cooler.

So the next question is I would need the right parts to side mount the GPU in my case and it has to be a PCIe 4.0 riser Cable so something like this below.

What is the correct length for the Riser and is linkup a good brand for this? i've heard of issues with lower quality cables etc.

Just looking for Feedback and suggestions.

Firstly, the title of this thread ("Replacing Stock Cooler AMD Radeon 6800XT") is incorrect. It should be "Vertical GPU cable brand and length recommendations for Fractal Designs Meshify S2?"

Your intent to use the Alphacool Eiswolf solution is somewhat important. The fact that your graphics card is a 6800 XT isn't important in light of the fact that Alphacool offers the Eiswolf line for a wide variety of both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.

The PC case model is essential but something you failed you specify in your original inquiry. I had to pick it out of your system specs.

Moving on, the owners manual for your particular case has a schematic for a vertical GPU mounting suggestion. It unhelpfully does not recommend a PCIe riser cable length. The manual explicitly states that the cable and corresponding mounting hardware are NOT included.

I know this is old school but I suggest you reach out to Fractal Designs' technical support desk and ASK THEM for their suggestions. After all, they designed and manufactured the thing. While they understandably may not want to publicly recommend a particular brand of vertical GPU riser bracket, they may be willing to share their suggestions in a private communication.

For sure, someone at Fractal Designs tested this out at least once.

I would buy the riser card/cable from a retailer with a useful customer satisfaction policy (I do not know what Amazon.ca's policy is). If there are mom-and-pop/independent PC stores in your area that carry your case and also assemble custom builds, they might actually have a suitable part in stock.

If I would hazard a guess related to @cvaldes previous suggestions. Fractal would most likely recommend their own, specifically mentioned to be compatible with MeshifyS2 (and others). The Flex VRC-25 https://www.fractal-design.com/products/accessories/hardware/flex-vrc-25/black/

That being said, my experience with risers is the same as Russian roulette. Some work, some don't. The shorter the length, the higher the chance they "just work". The longer they are the more important quality products become.

According to the specifications on that riser cable's webpage which you provided, the Flex VRC-25 is PCI Express 3.0 x16, not the PCIe 4.0 that the OP wants.

OP must seek out a third-party solution for PCIe 4.0 support.

Yet another reason for the OP to reach out to Fractal Designs tech support directly unless OP really wants to play PCIe riser card Russian roulette.

I will update the thread title.

And the Flex VRC-25 is not an option as that is 3.0 as pointed out by cvaldes.

I know someone using that linkup cable on a different build and they have no issues so that is why I was looking at it.

Ask a moderator to move this out of the AMD GPU section since this is not a Radeon-specific inquiry. Your inquiries will have more relevant eyeballs when they are properly titled and categorized.

I suggest the System Builder's Advice or General Hardware forums.

Good for you. That means that Linkup has tested their product with those cases.

Pity that Fractal Designs customer support isn't up to the same level as their mechanical design.

Agreed love their cases but no response on that email not a good look. For me personally not an issue as I solved it myself and am not someone that contacts support for anything.
