Dear fellow TPU'ers,

I got some odd problems with my PC, not sure if I already posted them before or not. Ohwell here we go.

Problem 1
Since a year or so I got problems turning my PC off at some occassions. All looks normal at first when you initiate shut down but after the screen displays "Shutting Down" the Windows Load circle just stops and nothing else happens. I have to physically force my PC to shut down (holding down the on/off button). Once shut down and rebooted again the first thing I noticed is that my LEDs on my G15 start to flicker for a few seconds and then my PC starts to boot.

Odd thing is, it doesnt seem anything has happend. No errors on start up and nothing out of the ordinary in the Windows Log files. Just like when you shut down Windows normally.

I have done several upgrades in hopes to solve the problem. First being the PSU upgrade (UCP 900W to HX1000W) and then the upgrade to a kit of 8GB Corsair Vengeance. Still to no avail.

Everything, atleast in my eyes, points to a faulty motherboard. I'm planning to replace it with either a Crosshair IV Formula or Extreme next month. I was hoping this upgrade wasnt necessary, sigh... That is, if you guys dont have a miracle cure for my problem.

Problem 2
Since I've put back my second HD5870 in my main rig I'm getting some graphical glitches. Not in the form of artifacts. It seems my PC has problems alt-tabbing on some occassions, taking very long to load. First the screen fades to black, this stays for several seconds and then it shows the other windows I was alt tabbing too.

Secondly, I play allot of E.V.E and I run the game client more then once. Whenever I have 2 accounts open and wanna shut one down my PC just freezes (when the other is still running). I can still here the other account in the background as if its running normally.

I'm seriously considering selling my 5870's and just to go for a HD6970. That is, once again, you folks dont provide me with a miracle solution. I rather have my system the way it is instead of upgrading every damn month...

Thanks for all the comments in advance. Hope you guys can help.

EDIT: Everything about my system is in the description. If you guys need to know anything else just lemme know.

Problem is, its a reoccurring issue. In the course of my attempts to solve the issues I have reinstalled my PC several times and secured myself with adequate anti-virus software. The only thing that boots along with Windows is CCleaner that cleans my PC at boot up. Still, the problem occurs even if Windows and its essential drivers and software is the only thing that starts at boot.

Its just a matter of testing the hardware one thing at a time. Could be anything from a cable to a hard drive, driver, heat, dirty power to the PSU.

Dirty power to PSU - Excluded (Tested it with and without a APC UPS)
Heat - Excluded (Hottest component at load are my GPU's peaking at 81c)
Drivers - Excluded (Fresh install, newest drivers still no avail)
Cable - Not entirely sure (I've done some pretty tight cable management in my Antec 1200, noticed that one of my satacables has a exposed core, at the connector end. Can this really be the culprit? Otherwise I'm gonna slap myself silly... :nutkick:)

Havent run HD Tune yet. But my PC never freezes when interacting when any of the HDD's. Not matter how much data I write, copy, cut or paste from and on them. They all act like they should. Thats why I have a hard time believing the cable is the culprit.

Never has data being written to my HDD's been corrupted. Still, it can not hurt replacing the cable, just for excluding it.

Your system specs looks like its a dual boot. Anyway Ive had similar problems and one that I could not figure out. Frustrating but it was with XP. Ive not had a shutdown problem with 7 at all. I take it you have re-formated too. Good luck :)

And newest drivers are not always the best

There are 2 different systems in my description, devided by "//".

Yeah, I have completely reformatted my boot driver and any other drive in my system atleast once. At the moment, there is to much data scattered around on all of them to try it again. I am at a total loss here.

Just a guess on my part, but...
Looks like, maybe, a device does not or is not supporting the selective suspend.

You can go through device manager and disable it on the devices.

Open Device Manager, then double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand it.
Next, right-click on each USB Root Hub, and then click Properties in the menu that opens.
Click the Power Management tab and un-check the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" check box, and then click OK.

Do the same thing for the IEEE1394 Bus host controller.

Also, check your bios and set the any unused ports to dis-able (ieee1394, serial, parallel, etc.) that you do not use.
And, in the bios under the power menu, make sure the settings are at the defaults and not accidentally changed. Except for the ACPI 2.0 support... try setting this to "enabled".

:)

Well, if, it does not work, we'll just have to keep going 'til the problem is found.
There are some other things to try.:)

One is, try a different keyboard and, then a mouse.

In the course of my attempts to solve the issues I have reinstalled my PC several times and secured myself with adequate anti-virus software.

I don't think it would be a corrupt page-file, as you have re-installed, you said. You stated PC, but, I figured you meant O/S...

Yep, change the cable or check the connections of the cables.
Try, it without the cd/dvd(s) attached.

I don't know if your are using them, but here are the latest southbridge drivers 11.4 from AMD/ATi.

Dont seem to have any spare ones. I'll run by the shop and pick some up tommorow. Alt tabbing issues continue. When I booted my system today catalyst had disabled crossfire. It turned on ok, but I couldnt get any readings from the second card through catalyst. Gpu-Z however detected both cards fine. Ingame I have yet to find any problems.

Thanks for the help so far.

Many Samsung Spitpoint F3 hard disks have problems with AMD South-bridge .

Hard disks work AHCI or IDE mode ????

If you run with AHCI, do you change registry settings ???

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci ---> start = 0

Dont run with default microsoft ahci driver .... !!! Driver for southbridge & AHCI you can find here:

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/integrated_win7-64.aspx#3

TRIM enable in Win 7 or disable ???

So far so good fellows.

My HDD settings are set to IDE since my BIOS doesnt pick up my SSD anymore when I set it to AHCI. Dont know if you people have any cures for that? I installed the latest Southbridge/RAID AHCI drivers. I know my motherboard, M4A79T Deluxe, disables some ports when the drivers arent installed.

Havent tried after installing the drivers though, since things are looking good. Is there much difference between the 2 settings? My SSD is still blazing fast, odd thing is my Windows Performance Index is slowly degrading. I went from a 7.6 on the SSD to a 7.1.

Once again, thanks for all the help people.

If you have instal windows with IDE mode first, you must change first registry setting and after the bios settings to work with AHCI !!!

1) First change registry settings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesM sahci ---> start = 0

2) Instal AMD ATI drivers for AHCI and SB

3) reboot and go in bios to put SATA = AHCI mode for all sata.

3) reboot and reinstal all AMD ATI drivers for AHCI and SB.

4) REBOOT

After that you should have that:

and

BUS RELATIONS = All your hard disks and ssd

AHCI mode is much better for all sata drives, especially for ssd because AHCI has NCQ (Native Command Queuing)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_Command_Queuing

Dont run with default microsoft ahci driver .... !!! AMD driver for southbridge & AHCI is much better for all AMD south-bridges.

I cant remember if SB750 support TRIM but If you want to enable this function, you should do that:

To enable or disable TRIM Command, you will need to open an Elevated Command Prompt window.
How To Open an Elevated Command Prompt window: Click on Start Orb > Type "CMD.exe" in Search box > Right click on "CMD" and select "Run as Administrator" (If you receive a prompt confirmation, click YES)

How to Enable TRIM Command
In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:

fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

How to Disable TRIM Command

In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:

fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1

How do I know if TRIM is working in Windows 7?

In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:

fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
Results explained below:
DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

What is Trim ?= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIM

Thanks Rem, I'll make sure to look into it when I get back home.

Currently only SATA interfaced devices are build in my system, so there is actually nothing that uses IDE in the first place.

Will AHCI show me a significant performance/stability boost? And does it explain my degrading Windows Performance Index?

I speak for different thing ! No for sata or ide/atapi connectors. I speak only for sata ..

Your SATA devises can run with 3 different modes .
a) Ide mode
b) AHCI mode
c) Raid mode (raid0, raid 1, raid 5, raid 10)!

There are many other reasons who make your pc running slowly . If you don`t set windows working for ssd after time your ssd run slowly !!

I only have SATA devices, thats what I ment. Sorry if I wasnt clear in my first post. But does this also affect my Windows Performance Index?
