Very weird issues with USB ports, Audio hardware and...?

Three days ago I simply shutted down my tower (info below!) after a windows update, and set the power "off".

I came back today and when I re-powered up my machine a LOT of things happened.

1) My keyboard didn't recognized an attached usb key, I restarted then discovering the tower itself didn't do it when attacching it to free usb slots. No sound was emitted when attaching or deattaching usbs.

2) After the restart the keyboard was not powered enough, it didn't work, neither any of the USBs, and when trying to record audio with my microphone (that was attached and on, but not working like the keyboard) it gave me weird errors, like "ID not recognized"

3) Tried some different restarts and setups of cables and usb keys, everytime it said "ID not recognized", an error I've never seen in Windows 7 before. In the control panel, the "Audio" options showed that any hardware for rec was simply VANISHED and there was some unknown issue with the AMDA00 Interface.

4) After almost a hour the tower began to go "crazy" with "connected usb" sounds, as if it was actually remembering all my tests in the last restart, and things began to work again one after another, with some errors that were gone after a final restart. Still, in the "rec" tab of the Audio control panel everything disappeared, if not the external Blue Yeti mic I use.

...I do not understand, honestly. It is really an unique issue and it scares me for it's instability. I use this machine to work everyday and this is worrying me. Could it be because it was powered off (not only the OS, the tower itself had the alimentation switch turned off) for days? Or is it something that could have been the update's fault? I really can't decipher it.

This is a really blind shot in the dark.

But I might suspect the bios battery.

Sounds like you have had a low voltage default settings bootup probably with legacy usb. As the PC has been on for a while it's thrown some charge back into the cell. You probably did a bios reset as well towards the end by the sounds of your troubleshooting.

I didn't do a bios reset, at least not by my wish. I just kept restarting the machine, but if it was the case of the bios battery, is there any kway to change it by myself?

I do put the power supply off because, I still didn't find why (not something to do with updates it seems) the computer always turn on by itself during night.

Try reconnecting the 24 pin motherboard connector.

Try a "System Restore" to a point before the updates.

Or, you could try uninstalling the updates until you find the ones or one that may have caused the problem.

I would try the first one, if you have system restore turned on.

I do have a system restore ready, but ONLY one and it's not clear if it is before or AFTER the update. Is there any way to know or, maybe, to tell my machine to save MORE of them for future isseus?

The PSU might be at fault. The capacitors might take more time to charge up and allow the PSU to give stable power.

Thing is that after some time the machine is working "fine", except for the audio hardware disappeared. Is there any way to do some diagnostic? To understand if the PSU takes too much time to power up stably or anything related?

Moreover, I find it strange to have only 2 system restore points, oneeven activated Yesterday. I checked the options and it seems it should make one almost everyday, but it's not happening.

p.s.: knowing how to tell my pc to NOT POWER ON by itself during night could also be of great help indeed.

For testing if its a PSU related issue, the only way I see is to try your PC with a different PSU and check if the problem persists.

There are a lot of programs from that AI Suite, do I have to unistall ALL of them? I really think not since there are some useful things in there, am I wrong?

You'll have to wait for another opinion on what to remove, if anything.
I was basing my suggestion on what I have read in the past that has affected others with similar problems, I have never had this issue myself.

Sounds like an update problem to me. When you said you "shut down after the update" Did you shutdown just after it installed or did you wait for it to reboot, finish loading the updates then shutdown? It sounds like you've powered off half way through the update process. This is something Microsoft warns about NOT doing. As has been suggested, system restore should fix things, if you haven't got a restore point, or its a really old restore point you might need to do a repair install

Uhm.. Roger that. I might try to uninstall these for example, since I'm looking forward stability more than faster transfers.

The update installed while shutting down, so yes, I of course let it power off by itself after the installation was complete, but it didn't reboot since the order I gave to the machine was actually a shut down.

Just to know, since it will be surely helpful, how should/could I do a repair-install? And furthermore is there any way to tell windows to just do MORE restore points?

I told you that you need to increase the amount of space allowed, this will increase the number of restore points.

There is no setting the number of restore points with specific number. Unless, you find some third party software that has that ability.
However, you can use the task scheduler to let windows know when to create the restore points.

you can create restore points by hand
odds are it was just windows updating a chipset driver that will cause a bit of wonk if it doesn't go right the first time ,which if ai suite was running is fairly likely

Found it! I only read the part about the Task Scheduler, but I found my restore space was ONLY 2%. Now I upgraded it to 15%, hope this will help in the future.

Urhmrmrm... Scary. Do you have any suggestion then? Any way to know "everything is all right" or "NOT Alright"? I don't know what has been updated, after all... And this AI Suite is quite a mess I see.

Even with "powercfg lastwake" I got no response from the PC, that says "reactivation count - 0" (it may be not literal since I sadly have the OS in another language)
