hmm, will it fit in my Gigabyte X800Pro (GV-R80P256V) in a Asus A8V Deluxe mother board? I've heard that there are some compatibility issues because of the big size of the cooler...

It should fit on the x800pro it will from the pics, but the motherbaord is another story it *should* fit and it probably will but then thats not 100% certain, as things might get in the way of mounting etc.. just remember that the silencers need another slot, and then on top of that should have another one for good flow.

Which Cooler will work with an x700pro? I am getting 70c under full load and would like to cool that off a little.

the silencer 4 is for a X800 i dont know how much different they are but that would be your best bet.

I think chem... that you should wait for Artic Cooling to bring out a newer version, probably 5, that is designed for the X700, because the pcb's are always different and unless your willing to cut it up your best bet is to just hang tight for a while.

You know, that's kind of what I was starting to lean towards as well. Actually, I fired off an email to Arctic Cooler folks regarding what to get for a x700pro and will see what they have to say. I will post any info that I get. I would imagine that they would want to support the x700 as well, but I don't really know how popular the card is. I have to say though, that this is the best card that I have ever owned, and the most expensive. But trying to play HL2 on Intel 900 graphics was not cutting it haha.

hahahahahahah hl2 on an onboard system, the x700 looks to be really really good, but as ati havn't gotten any x700xt's out yet everyone keeps comparing the x700pros with the 6600gt's which is like, not what should happen. And as its the new "mid-range" ati thing im sure they will support it... eventually.

How well does a X700 Pro go up against a 6600GT?

Ah its very close, with the 6600GT leading by far in Doom 3 and the X700 leading by far in 3dmark 05. though no Half life 2 benchmark, seems kind of biased.

I have been very happy with the x700pro - my current overclock is 460/505(1010) and it rips through halflife2, although it hits 72c-74c under full load which is my concern (it runs 50c in idle). I thought about getting the 6600GT, but in the end I preferred the 6 vertex shaders on the x700pro and the 256megs of ram - not too mention that Valve has specifically said that ATI cards are better for HL2. Something that I recently came across in another forum was that ATI may not even release the x700xt but rather put out an extremely crippled x800 to compete with the 6600gt. But in my opinion after seeing like 7 or 8 comparisons between the x700pro and the 6600gt these are both great cards for a pretty decent price and neither one outshines the other (although in 3dmark 2005 the x700pro was a rather significant winner - which makes me wonder if this is the future of gaming the x700pro may have a longer run before being upgraded). Personally, I preferATI's dual monitor support over Nvidia's - but as far as being a fanboy of either company I am really not, I like them both and use cards from both companies.

wazzledoozle:
benchmarks always are bios... go to www.overclockers.com.au and have a look around there if your interested in more benchmarks.

Chem:
Your picking on my thoughts exactly, the x700's look really good, if your on pci-e and want a good midrange card.. shame about the x700xt's tho...

Speaking of pci-express... at this stage in the game there really isn't much in the high-end offering. Radeon x800pro on the ATI side, and I don't know if nvidia has a 6800x offering in pci-express. Wish nvidia would release a 6800gt for pci-express at their AGP price. Not that I would get it anytime soon, but would wait a year til it dropped in price - well actually would wait until it was $200 or less, can't really bring myself to pay more than that for a video card, and that's pushing it in my opinion.
