Video Card Overclocking Artifact Check

I recently bought a Powercolor Radeon 9550 with 5.0 ns Samsung RAM. I am overclocking it to 420 Core 230x2 Memory Clock with some aggressive memory timing thrown in. I ran 3DMark 2003 one time last night after setting the clocks as noted, and could not detect any visible artifacts. After running the ATITool artifact check for about 30 minutes, I got the first incident of an isolated 16 pixel artifact, which then disapperared, and did not recur for about 5 minutes, at which time I was ready to go to bed. I plant to test this speed further, but should I be setting a goal of no incidents of artifacts ever with ATITool, or is a rare isolated artifact occurence still indicative of a successful overcloking speed without mortal danger to the card?

I have ASUS 9550GE/TD, and have on my settings, 409.6/256.5x2, ocassionaly an artifact. if i cross 260x2 i am beginning to see white stripes over my screen, but still few artifacts. Artifacts are never good for ones card, but if it only accures rarely there should b no big danger. I can get these timings coz i have 4.0ns samsung and 128bit, but you might get a few more mhz if you get a nice cooler for it, and ramsinks.

Atitool will pick up errors before you see them in a game or 3d app. Turn your clocks down a bit or losen the timings if you get errors.

A 16 pixel artifact indicates the memory is running too fast. Single pixel artifacts are gpu. Slap some ramsinks on it and you'll be stylin'
Be cautious, it's easier to damage TSOP mem modules than it is the GPU.
An occasional 1 pixel artifact is ok, multiple pixel artifacts can damage the memory over time.

would that be an example of bad memory....
the card is a X800XL AIW AGP card. This is at stock speed, the only way to get rid of the artifacts is to set the memory spee to 420 or below.
