Hey guys. Just installed a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970. Awesome card(board) lol. Idle temp is 27c and load I haven't seen anything over 64c. Would it be worth it to replace the thermal compound? I have AS5 and MX4 laying around. Are these temps pretty good for a 970? It would be interesting to me if members posted what cards they are presently using and idle/load temps.

Yes, those are excellent temps for the card. I wouldn't touch anything. You're as likely to have higher temps as keep about the same. Just leave it and enjoy your card!

970 in the house runs 29-30 at idle, and about 65 on load. My 980 idles at 28, and gets up to between 55 and 65 on load.

Just to note though, GPU temps will also be affected by your case airflow, or lack thereof. I would say yours is likely good based on you having good temps.

Those are very good temps, as long as it's running like that it's fine.

I have a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 ti and now have your temps after applying
Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound.

So you could probably lower yours a bit more after a re-paste. Especially after you see how much compound was slopped on by the factory.
MX4 would be perfect for this application.

Just keep it, you may replace it when you like cleaning your heatsink or your temp is getting hotter

You like warranties?

Well I've read there is no void warranty if removed stickers on the back of Gigabyte cards so re-pasting should be okay.

No it won't. But really, you could end up with temps not as good. Just wait until you have temperature problems to repaste.

Sup,
there is a informational post about temps & pastes on GPU's / CPU's...
Your temps are ultra fine, Gigabyte's Windforce 3x cooler on your card is pretty excellent, you could also lower a little more your temps replacing the paste, maybe 1C on idle and 3 or 5 max on full load, since your temps are excellent you wont notice a important or noticeable performance upgrade...

if you want better results... get a waterblock and put it underwater,

Yeah I think you guys are right I'll just leave it for right now. Probably going to sell it when Pascal comes out anyways. I'd love to put it on water but I don't see any reason to oc this beast.

also rocking a 970 G1. lowest temp recorded was 27C, max was a warm 59C. u dun need to re-apply thermal paste unless the ones that comes with it starts to dry up & average temps got a little higher than usual.

Yeah, if you got good temps, don't bother with the card. Otherwise, I repaste if the temps where bad....like this stupid 980STRIX I have....noisy piece of hot crap.

Got a 970 G1, yet to mess around with OCing and folding with it.

Have you guys tried to oc them yet? What mode are you running them. I wonder if temps would go down if you run in eco mode?

I recently repasted my Asus GTX Titan, bcs I through it was being larm doing gaming bcs it reached like 85c and more with Nvidia's stock cooling so i had some Noctua NT-H1 laying around i used on my cpu cooler too, didn't really effect temps so it's the shitty Nvidia cooler that's my problem

repasting a reference card is interesting, no matter what you wold use, the results would not lower so much, blower is pretty simple cooler that wont take all heat out... i did repasting on my reference 680 with arctic and the high temp on full load is 85C, idle or lower is arround 30C, at the colder nights i leave the computer downloadings things the lower temp for video card is 27C

Reference cards are great for SLi configurations...or CFx

those temps look Very nice, im guessing your case has good Air flow...however if You DO ever feel inclined to re-TIM it... I have switched from AS5 to Phobya HeGrease Extreme , and its been great, im currently using it with My 2500K , because im taking delivery of the majority of my new builds components today, and had to remove my Water loop, so im on the Stock, 2nd generation Intel CPU cooler, and My temps with that Phobya TIM are 32C idle...and 64C loaded, running GTA5. anyone looking for a good TIM, I certainly would put it in your list of choices.
