hihi

I haven't looked at video cards since the GeForce3 first reared it's head, so any help would be appreciated~

I need a video PCI-e video card...
ok... i have a tight budget... so it seems that i'm limited to either the X600XT TD (256mb), X600Pro(256mb), or the 6600TD (128mb)...

what are the differences? and which should I buy? what does the "TD" mean?

Thanks heaps
i

Thanks mate!

I've done some research and it's clear that the 6600GT is by far better, but I was wondering how the 6600TD fares?

I have AU$200

Even though I'm an ATI fan, I would rather recommend the 6600TD (the regular 6600 I believe) than the X600. Especially with newer games. Ex. Doom3 runs at acceptable settings (1024x768 high quality) at about 45fps (depending on your CPU) on a 6600 and about 30fps on an X600XT. The 6600GT is way better, but also more expensive.

Me too. An ATI user here. But for that budget, you can't beat the 6600. Last I checked you could find them between $163 to $243 from www.pricewatch.com. Also, eBay would be a good source. Maybe even a 6600GT for that $200 budget. I have made many, many used card purchases from eBay without a problem. Just make sure the selelr(s) have an impeccable feedback rating.

thanks guys!~

also, i heard that although the nVidia chipsets may outperform ATI's in 'normal' operation, the ATI's are much better once more complex graphics like anti aliasing, more channel depth (or something) etc etc were on... is this true?

Um.. Their both basically the same in performance if you compare the 6600 with the ATI card that came out in the same area to beat that card. ATI and Nvidia is like pepsi and coke..or intel and AMD.. they do have their strong and weak points but sometimes it depends on how your system is set up.. because say a person with a 700 Mhz PIII witha Radeon 9800 XT expects to play doom III on ultra high then hes got another thing coming. Lol
