what's about backplate ... most of the card don't have a backplate .... high end previously didn't had backplate, since when it became a standard? (ok my R9 290 has a backplate ... )

stacked HBM ? eh? we already know how much vRAM will be on the 390X??? really? on the other hand ... 12gb even for 4k is not ... a top requirement, even if the 390X would have only 6gb i take a guess that would be fine (if 4k was a mandatory standard either...)

With that "new" style reference cooler which started during kepler, a backplate is not needed. The metal shroud is fully connected to the pcb and is very strong. You're not going to get any sagging.

Well the mem chips on gpu side get cooled, so lets say you overclock your memory. The ones on back would heat up faster/artifact/error out thus creating a limit on your oc.

Also, would look fancy and prevent warping.

Well as i said, with this particular cooler, there is no warping. As to whether backplates provide any cooling, the jury is still out.

Aaaaand with a backplate those mem chips on the back would suffer even more. No, backplates are def NOT good for temps, pretty much the contrary as it has been tested tons of time already.

Look fancy? Yeah. Prevent warping? Maybe.

You want fancy with that extra temps? I don't. Most backplates are counter-productive, few of them had actually achieved the warping protection (+ fancy looks I guess) without hitting the temps.
