Hi!

I want to play 3dfx glide games, but i dont want to use another pc only connect the voodoo via pcie1x riser (usb) and play games on my main pc. I have a voodoo3 2000 AGP card, i ordered an AGP-PCI adapter and a PCIe-PCI adapter (ebay and aliexpress). Currently only the AGP adapter arrived so i tested it on an old core2 duo mobo (Gigabyte P35-DS3 and Xeon 3050).
I installed the latest SFFT Driver 1.9 that works on win7 x64 (disabled driver signing, and enabled test mode) but i got error code 37 on windows 10.
The adapter is works fine, i have tested with a few cards (7600GS, 5600)

So is there a way to make the voodoo3 card working on windows 10 x64?

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
Someone better informed than me might know better, but my guess is no.

3DFX went out of business 20 years ago and Intel/AMD/Nvidia had to radically re-write their driver for the new Microsoft WDM that Windows 10 now uses. Unless someone has done something incredible and re-written the 3DFX drivers for WDM, I suspect you are limited to Windows XP.

There's this video from the pre-WDM era but even then, I suspect it's D3D only and won't work for the GLide API you're hoping for because much of what's being done is being emulated in software by the CPU using the Microsoft basic compatibility driver.

Is translating glide calls to d3d using an API wrapper not an option? Do you really want to /have to go native?

That is not the same feeling. Like that i have a real c64 rig (with real commodore monitor) for c64 games and that is much more better than any emulator.

That is fair. Just want to make sure you know your options.

It is hard to beat native.

I'd build another rig for that. I also like playing older games with native or period correct hardware (and with period correct OS).

i have a two old complete rig, but it is tiring to move the rig to the desk and connect all the things just to play half hour of old games. (i dont have much space in my workroom)
But i like the 3dfx glide graphics, that is why i want to use it in my main pc. (and my display have hdmi for the main video card, and Dsub for the voodoo3)

You need to be aware that AGP Slots came with various power and voltage ratings
putting a AGP 2 card into an AGP 4 or 8 Slot will result in "BANG" (burnt slot and damage to motherboard and other parts)
AGP 2 Cards are generally 5V............. AGP 4 and 8 are either 3.3v or 1.5v

So is there a way to make the voodoo3 card working on windows 10 x64?
Put simply? No.

Put technically? Someone would have to write drivers for the card for modern OSes. This would require creation and compiling of tons of code, tons of testing and all for a GPU incapable of running a modern desktop environment to say nothing of running games..

Very sad, so i need windows 7 x64 that is works with the old driver.
That you got this far is impressive.

In 2016, Windows 10 version 1607 dropped support for AGP videocards making Windows 10 1511 the last Windows release to support AGP. AGP support removal in future Linux kernel and drivers was also considered as wel

My wild guess is that those adapters are universal, but it's still a valid point there.

Actually AGP 1x/2x are all 3,3V by default (older Voodoo's are 3,3V only).
1,5V is as option on 4x/8x cards, and there never was 5V option (that's for PCI [non-e]).

There are only two +5V pins on AGP port, and max. rating for that is 2A.
3,3V maxes out at 6A. Here's AGP pin-out :

The adapter is universal, tested it with newer agp cards Fx5600, 7600GS is 0.8-1.5v (+molex connector)
But when is used with a bigger card the vrm coil on the adapter is very hot, so i put a fan near the adapter coil.

I think it is possible to use the agp-pci adapter on any old motherboard that not support AGP 4x-8x cards, or without agp slot because it has own vrm for the agp power.
So like 386 and a HD3850 AGP is possible :D but ofc pointless

Love such an insane idea, but the problem would be that those ancient CPUs don't support the instructions needed for drivers for any newer cards :/

Even an AMD 5x86 (which is a 486-based CPU) can't run anything which requires Pentium instructions.

Get an SSD and USB SSD interface, put XP on the SSD. Dual boot XP by choosing that as boot device when you want to use it. (Or 7 if works on that.)

No need then to write your own drivers for Wii 10.

i dont think that windows xp even starts on a Xeon Gold (the current rig is just test rig, but the final is the main rig). But the windows 7 x64 is possible. I will try it.

The cpu is on stock 2ghz, turbo disabled for compatibility. The driver works fine, 3dmark01se starts very slow and gives error for minimal nemory. But benchmark works fine, no arifacts, ni bugs, no hangs...
Next is normalizing clocks, installing missing drivers.

this is certainly a unique project. ive always wondered how reliable those adapters are. i wonder if there is a performance drop because of the adapters or if its running the way it should. this looks like something the folks in the nostalgia hardware thread could chime in on.
