You seem to have your mind set on Bitdefender. Just get it then. None of us have mentioned it. I used it briefly. It was fine. Pretty light. Sometimes annoying popups, but maybe later versions have options for notifications. I'm quite sure you'll have a good time with Bitdefender.

:)
thanks for your feedback.
but no one has mentioned iit in their replies so confused
:D
let's see more replies..
i'll use bitdefender/nod32/kaspersky only.

thx again to all for votes.

If you don't wanna spend money, AVG's free version is top-notch. I've used older versions before, and I've never read a bad comment about it.

Bird, I would say NOD32. It's not annoying, it can be updated, it has thorough check system and you can toggle all the automated features if you so wish.

I could understand Vagabond's point, if he meant there's no new real or groundbreaking threats out there, as everything is really just a spinoff of some trojan from the Back Orrifice days, but such threats still exist.

Vaga, you mention a new play field? Elaborate please. I suspect you're insinuating that virii as we know it is not as affective, so there's some new 'kid' on the block per se?

What does Vista have to do with it? The stock security is better, but I hacked myself in less than two minutes when I first got a copy of Ultimate.

I think your logic here, is that older virii will not function properly or run on Vista because of their coding. That's some serious Russian Rhoulette thinking though.

My friend, people no longer code viruses...From what i hear from people that work in places that have a better view of things viruses have stopped...Some say theres no profit to be made by viruses ( In the 90s each time a virus emerged so did an Anti-Virus Company ) , others that the same people that used to create viruses decided to change tactics and create malware for various websites or for themselves. I really cant tell whats right and whats wrong.
I can only say that for the past 7 years i never got infected by a virus and i have been Alpha/Beta testing AV suites for the past 9 years....
Malware, Trojans however sure, i even get infected by those everyday ( Like most of us i reckon ) but a virus ? No.

I'm baffled. People no longer code viruses? How can you say something so universal and absolute and believe it's true?

Norton Was Good back in 1995-1996 along with F-Prot and Mcafee....Not any more.

Im not saying it Neptune, people that know far more do....Besides since i havent found a virus in 7 years why should i say they are wrong ?

btw i dont know why people hate norton...isnt it gud?

No. Norton sucks. If it doesn't nerf your computer or hog resources, it'll probably hinder productivity or block useful processes. Symantec's non-Norton stuff is decent though.

It's not a matter of profitability. I'm willing to bet that most viruses released are "just for fun" projects to increase online ego and Internet street cred. To see how much damage they can do. How big a company they can bring to its knees.

That was the case with some viruses in the past who deleted everything on an HDD or even filled HDDs with random files.
However there were viruses that their creators asked money in order to stop them from destroying entire servers...That was the profit part :)

OK, back on topic. I prefer Kaspersky Internet Security myself. Relatively quick, light on resources, lots of features(including a good firewall), great compatibility(even works flawlessly in Vista x64), and highly configurable.

Just ridiculous. :shadedshu :wtf:

being in the IT field.. I would have to suggest too, "virus's" by definition are a long dead trouble maker.

Trojans are where the fun is.

Software is no longer a "poke it and laugh" playing field for hackers, you have to know how things work to exploit them.

If you find a hole/exploit in many of the popular programs today, chances are you'll either: Tell the author so it can be patched, do nothing, or sell it to the highest bidder. Why waste time exploiting it with a virus, when it would only effect a select few and in a certain way?

most virus's are able to be controlled even without anti-virus, which is why they are about useless now.

Trojans on the other hand, can give you a back door into a computer to control it to the fullest.

but I send a full set of Spybot, Ad-Aware, and AVG on any computer I build for anyone :)

I use avast! with vista and haven't had any problems with it. It doesn't take up much resources and never pops up unless their is a problem (haven't had any virus problems with vista yet but it did the job when their was a problem in xp)
