I find the mentaility of lots of forum members here quite funny. Calling VR a gimmick left and right and refuse it. Now we get to see some really OLD people play with it and even they are having loads of fun. Are our tech savvy TPU members older than these old ladies and gentlemen? I think not. VR is the future and you should embrace it.

Naaa not really.
See this is YouTube, and it's set up. 14 mill subs, these guys rake in the cash, pay them for their efforts, the pay those elderly got is no where near the amount they will make on that 1 video.

Also those people are not paying for anything they are just experiencing as is.

I'd love to get one, but the Rift is $1400 and the Vive is $2K.
It's really not worth it at those prices.

They both have a very limited availability here sellers are basically gouging the market.

I may try to get one from the states when a friend goes over, but I doubt the usb 3 on my mobo would be compatible :(

It's here to stay.. For very old people? lol.. I can't stand it.. Not many people are going to wear that headgear for extended play.. I won't..
They have been giving headsets away with games, for free. That's how bad they are selling..

Am I the only one who can't stand these "react" videos?
Just looked up, the Vive would cost me 1,25k, and that's form a shady shop.

This is the same propaganda you see in the US elections now. Everything is amazing, everything fantastic, look how everyone is reacting, check out the buzz, yadayadayada.

If you get caught by this, you don't earn points in my book, I chalk it down as naive and dumb behaviour. Something about sheep, and the flock.

What I see right now is PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and OpenVR. Undeniably Microsoft is going to do something with VR too and I'm not convinced Microsoft is going to embrace Oculus Rift or OpenVR. In other words, we're going to have at least four competing technologies in the next few years.

At least two of them are going to be the next Betamax and HD-DVD. Why should anyone put so much dosh on something that may not be supported in three years? I'm going to wait until the dust settles and there is a clear victor.

According to Steam, that is HTC Vive right now but that's biased because Rift only recently started shipping units. And maybe that's enough to knock Rift out of the competition. On top of that, I can't see Oculus surviving something like DirectVR from Microsoft. The only reason why Oculus hasn't folded yet is because of their parent company, Facebook. I have no idea why Facebook has any interest in Oculus in the first place. Pretty much everything they'd want they could get from using OpenVR anyway. Anyway, last standard standing, and all that...

AHAHAHA!!!!! That's the Democratic convention. If you just saw the Republican convention (a week ago), you'd think the end was nigh. Propaganda indeed.

I would love to get a Vive and while I can afford to buy one even at its current price, I would rather not buy into the 1st gen and wait until I can get much more for much less.

I absolutly do not plan to play games standing and moving arms and what not!!!

Just as I can read a novel about riding horses and use MY IMAGINATION to feel like I am riding a horse, I can play computer games about driving a car and use MY IMAGINATION to add the rest. I do not need an interactive "pseudoreal" "experience" to reach the climax of entertainment. With this shitty gimmick you can look around, ok, I suppose walk around also. What about climbing? Diving?

For the "final ultimate" experience you have only one option: LIVE INSIDE THE GAME, anything lower is bleh, hahaha!

This is just business. Please do not insist : )

You know, I'm also quite a fan of that 'ultimately real' experience they call Real Life. As far as I know VR is still limited to sight, sound, and movement, so all it really is, is Mouselook with your head.

I'll pass on paying 600+ for a different kind of mouse pointer. Thanks :) The world outside costs exactly zero bucks, and adds free sunshine.

VHS and Betamax were both once thought of as gimmick's
once they became MAINSTREAM they were not then considered Gimmick's with wide spead adoption one eventualy captured the Market
VR will be the SAME

Thats why ^^^^^^^^
ps notice none of those seniors or OAP's Said " thats so Cool I MUST BUY ONE "

Still, do you really consider that to happen with VR? I really doubt the mass will be content sitting on the couch next to each other, banging their heads into one another because VR. It also doesn't work for the so-called 'TV Dinner'.

Nah, not sold on this getting mainstream. Ever. VR has inherent downsides that will always make this geek territory, or too gimmicky for others. Look at the Wii. That was fun... for a year.

My friend has a HTC vive and it is Seriously really grate, it is the best Working VR i have ever tried, and yes you can go out side and look at the sun... but i guess it will be fun the first 5 min.. and after that you will be blind for a while if you keep looking.... not so fun. :)
HTC Vive IS that grate, the motion setup is SO grate (really insane!!!), the viewing experience is THE BEST, the only thing you as tech nerd can spot that could be better is the resolution, but then again HTC Vive has the best resolution on the marked so i guess... no... it cant be better for now, and after 5 sec you forget all about that and is just blown away by the experiences.

after first time we tried my wife was like "do we really need that vacation" she is not into gaming at all but she was crazy about the HTC Vive.

Yes you can wait to the next gen. but if all does that there will be no next gen,

my score for the HTC Vive is 99,8 points out of 100.....
