So the GTX 1070 could be around crossfired Polaris 67DF:C7 (I assume that is P10?) range.... interesting indeed.

IMHO, it's all about if P10 can hit 1440p60/4k30 in the titles one would expect it to (ex: similar to a OC 980 or stockish Nano/Fury Vanilla)...be it stock or overclocked. If it can do that, and is cheaper than anything else than can do it, it should be a good chip. IMHO over-all perf compared to 1070 doesn't matter, because what is another few fps that doesn't effect your v-sync? It's all about that 'vr-spec' (which is essentially slightly faster than a 980, or exactly where 'C7' is pinned), or more-or-less the normalized scaled spec between an xbox at 900p or ps4 at 1080p at max...essentially the 'base' clock of a 1070.

If that doesn't fit whichever pertinent criteria (to the buyer, be it avg or min framerate, stock/overclocked) than buy a 1070/980ti, which for all intents and purposes look to be incredibly, incredibly close. Yes, 980ti has 46.6% more units, and 1070 ~75% of the total allowable power usage, but is also on a process that is 2x more efficient with slightly less power consumed by RAM. When you take clockspeed potential of both 980ti and what we've seen from 1080 into account...it should be really close. A 980ti does what, ~1366 within it's stock power envelope?...which would be equal to around 2ghz on a 1070. Yes, both can/could potentially clock higher, but as a rule of thumb, you can see they're going to be pretty close (dependant on if 1070, with it's disabled units, can clock slightly higher than 1080 and/or nvidia gives the same max power target...and/or you mod you bios which is a whole 'nother can of worms).

For others, they will shell out massive money for a 1080, chasing that 4k60 dream (mostly in vain, judging by founder's edition results).

Everyone else will hold on to our wallets and pray the 4k60 Gods are kind when they eventually arrive, which feels like waiting for Godot.

Hopefully I've broken down the market in a more-or-less succinct way: We're still, for all intents and realistic purposes, at 1440p60/4k30. Yes, a card that performs slightly better may get you over the hump in SOME games. But, as a manner of generalization, 1080 won't get us there. 1070 MAY not get us further than an overclocked Polaris. This is why we should wait and see what happens over the next month or so.

Edit: (Apologies for the kind-of OT, It's in the spirit of giving thoughts relative to 980ti/1070.)

GTX1070 faster than Titan X.

people are missing the performance increase of ddr5X. it is supposed to run at 10,000mhz effective according to Wiz's review.
edit someone beat me to it with the NVidia presentation above.. I'm waiting for the 1080ti!!

It was actually about the GTX1070 and GTX980Ti in this thread, the GTX1070 has GDDR5.

Gtx 1070 will be more power efficient than the titan x or 980 ti

Im expecting 2-5 fps more than the titan x (Dont think its nerfed as people make it out to be )

For how much would a GTX1070 be better than a GTX980Ti?
Your thoughts?

I play at 1080p by the way.
I will use a 21" tv as second monitor but game on 1 monitor.
im not sure i totaly understand the question.

for me the 980ti was one of the best cards nv have released in a while. in that i mean it is the least crippled desktop card they have produced vs the titan which i see as a ws card and then you have the pro grade cards with the tesla stuff.

but cash money is subjective, what is lots to one person is not to another :s

if you're asking which card is better value for money i think it is way too early to try and guess. the 980ti should be better in the long run but who knows what driver "tweaks" will be used to make the most of the newest cards at the cost of older ones. 780ti used to out perform the 970 at most things while i dont think that is still the case these days :s

Software I wish I could kill myself instead of using windows (OSX can suck it too).
Considering how the 1080 fares against even a decently OCed 980ti, the 1070 is a no buy anywhere near launch with typical price gouging and supply crunch considering it's a new process and nvidia couldn't even display an actual card not that long ago.

Holy run-on sentence Batman!

Was the power supply considered when choosing between the 1070 vs 980Ti? Also targeting a 1070 and even though there will be folks who will sell the 980Ti to me @cheaper price, im not sure if my old PSU can handle the load and might end up upgrading the PSU in the end

@medi01 7k more points from a CF setup, the white bar second from the top.
Dayum, I misread the chart, thought top white line was 480x... :((((

That is sensationally underwhelming....my 290X is faster than this...
Is it OCed? (and, anyhow, wow, it should be faster than Fury then, 480 is only 200 points behind it)

This is probably not on topic anymore, but I saw how cheap the cards at MaxICT were, so I just wanted to drop by and say that that webshop is described by many as the worst webshop they have ever ordered anything, taking ages to deliver stuff that is "in stock", terrible customer service etc.

(But OP probably knows that, if he visits nl.hardware.info)

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Anyone know when the 1070 reviews are out?

The OP and others can then make an informed decision on what to buy.

Personally I'd go for the 1070 even if the framerate performance is the same since it's newer tech which brings various benefits such as reduced heat and noise, features and will be supported longer and better than the old model.
June 10th.

Looks at the title of the thread;)

And sees the AMD replies:wtf:

I believe a moderator deleted his random posting of Polaris 10 performance chart..... and then he still replied not knowing it was deleted???? Or knew it was deleted and still responded anyway in an NVIDIA thread. ;)

I'm not sure if the 9 series supports HDR though HDMI 2.0.
The 10 series does through HDMI 2.0b..
Something to consider, plus the being VR ready and what not..

A quick comparison overclocked 970/980/980ti vs 1070/1080 overclock

As expected it lags behind, even at 2GHz OC.

Bring on the big guns 1080TI and AMD Vega 10 lol :D

The most interesting thing was that prior to the 1070 being overclocked, it was 5% slower across the board against the Titan X.

That kind of takes the wind out of that PR claim earlier this month. :)

Shush! Do you want to wake everyone?
Just wait till they "optimize" the drivers.
