Hrmmm... April's Fools joke?
On a Finnish tech site today, details an images of GTX 485 leaked.
The GTX 480 was only launched last week, so the GTX 485 does seem a little early -- although, on the other hand, this model is pretty much expected to be arriving at some point. Like many expected, the GTX 485 will have 512 CUDA / shader cores, as opposed to the GTX 480, which has 480 CUDA cores, after one SM bank was deactivated to increase yields of the massive and hot GF100 Fermi GPU.
The rest of the specs on the GTX 480 are simiraly boosted from what the GTX 480 can do. The GTX 485's clock speeds gain a massive 150 MHz increase, going to 850 MHz. The shader clock gets set to 1750 MHz (compared to the GTX 480's 1401 MHz), and the memory clock gains 125 MHz. With these performance gains, the GTX 485 requires a full 100W more of power, giving it a crazy 350W TDP.
The Finnish tech site says it'll be due in Q2 of this year, which is only a few months away. As far as we can tell there isn't a lot of Finnish humor in this article, so we think that this is no April Fools joke, unlike the HD 5999 and GTX 580 we read about today on Overclocker's Club. Then again the image file for this picture on the right is 20100401aprl_fl4.png, so ya, maybe it is a big joke come to think of it. Maybe the joke is the how hot this GPU would be, and how much power it would sap... Decide for yourself!
