From 285 SLI, hate to say it. That's really your only option, anything else would be a drop in performance.

EDIT:

At first I thought, 5870 or gtx480.

Maybe a nice 5870 or GTX 480 as said above.

Or also as said, you could wait a bit and maybe pick up one of the 6 series cards.

dunno bout that, can't play metro 2033 at native res(1080p) without stutters and lag so 1 285 wont do

Judging from what's been said so far, what you're looking for may lie in the next generation of cards.

A single gtx 480 would be a performance drop or a side grade from your GTX 285's. Either wait for the new Nvidia or ATi cards would be the best thing to do.

But yeah if you were to get a card right now just get a GTX 480, there are some new ones out with non reference coolers

Ya the 5970 is in fact a beast of a card and you really can't go wrong with it.

But with the next cards from AMD coming out in a little bit, you may want to stand back a bit ad wait till then.

But if you want to upgrade right now, a 5970 is a great pick.:)

so even though he said no ati ya'll keep suggesting the same thing. just get a 480 and be done with it. thats the only feasable single card solution it will perform damn close to your 2X285's but not quite as good.

Looking at the layout of the OP board it look's like he could have the TV card as he want's whilst being able to use SLI... I don't see his problem here?

his minimum FPS will be much higher to with a 480. Thats when you will notice a gameplay difference is when the minimum fps is high and around the 25 to 35 range. Minimum FPS is really what matters.

Very true. Across the board minimum FPS will be equal or higher to 285's in Sli. With a bit of an overclock the 480 will match the 285's in max fps with higher minimum fps. It's almost a sidegrade with benefits. If you don't need DirectX 11, it's really not worth the bother.

If you overclock a GTX480 you'll be pretty close but its still a sidegrade.

I'd wait on the next generation, either a single GPU 6000 series AMD card, or something new from Nv in the next 6 odd months.
