After hitting 80, you can be geared up in a matter of 2 weeks with near best everything...

Not even close to the truth, since NO ONE has beat Algalon on 25 Hard mode yet.

Notice "near" best everything. ;)

And algalon's a pussy.

He's only remotely hard because the guilds only get an hour a week.

Its kind of sad how some people drop off the radar after playing that game. Its like the false sense of accomplishment coupled with a vast realm is too much for some people.

Its like alcohol, some people can take it, and others have it destroy there life completely until they are an empty husk.

Well TBH its borderline on topic (he's "considering" starting..) but yes, please keep the senseless bashing out, unnecessary.

Regardless of topic, certain things tend to bring vast amounts of immaturity from both sides.

Blizzard seems to be taking a MUCH more casual friendly approach with WOTLK which is actually causing many many many of the more hardcore players to look elsewhere now.

Our guild had about 10-11 pre-BC raiders (myself included) but now we're all bored out of our skull with Ulduar.. and have basically all left it behind.

if you don't play casually, you get everything done as fast as blizzard allows you, which is terribly unexciting. The skill level required has also dropped dramatically. MIMIRON, all you do is move from the giant lightning ball, avoid land mines, and stay out of a rocket. this is apparently extremely difficult for a large majority of the player base now.

Tanking, Ghostcrawler is posting things about "block not turning out like they expected" and turns out they gimp'd shield wearing tanks while the majority of players still hold true to the "omg u has shield u r OP" mind.

And then the developers bring in some really whacky patch changes like Divine guardian, where the talent didnt even absorb remotely the correct amount of damage before breaking early- Blizzard doesn't even TEST these things anymore.

they spend a few days on "focused pvp testing" and then right after the patch goes live, blizzard hotfixes Exorcism to not be able to be used in PVP.

Focused testing my ass.

The direction of their changes (DK design cough) is the complete opposite of what they claim to be designing for, and their Q&A is making the "bad" rep DFI started out with, look extremely good.

I think it's pretty difficult to make a game that will please the millions of casual players and the hardcore players at the same time. Also, casual players look at hardcore players and think "lol awesome!!!11!" and they want to be a part of that group but they don't want to spend the time and energy it takes, or they're just to dumb to understand anything (YES, they do exist!). And so the cracking begins.

well if you enjoyed it before, and don't have any games right now that really interest u, why not? i personally feel the same as CD dude, i played WoW BC for 2 weeks, got to level 20 or something and just lost interest, the whole time the only fun part was playing it with my best friend i'd moved in with, wasn't near as fun playin by myself or with other online players. But to each his/her own. I play CSS probly 1-4 hrs a day and have for a year now and it never seems to get boring, as you can always improve in that game.

Not to mention its still stealing MMORPG communities up until now,

Tabul Rasa = down
Age of Conan = Ghost town
Sword of the new world = forced to go back to free 2 play now

I'm sure there are a hundred others. It weird because I actually enjoyed age of conan alot more than WoW but it was rare to come by another player, it felt like i was playing by myself that whole time, so bye bye.

Insecurity about playing WOW really shows there. I was bashing no one. I was warning about what it can do to people. You are a gleaming example.

This thread just needs to be closed and a PM sent to the OP telling him that the thread is getting out of control a bit. Let him read through the 3 pages and formulate his own conclusion on what he wants to do. People are too damn touchy when it comes to world of warcraft. Instead of telling the person to stay away from it like its a plague, just answer their question whatever it may be and get on with life.

Edit: And the answer to his question is on page 1. It should have been left alone after that.

WOW is a controversial topic much like politics. Some people love WOW, and for good reasons.

The issue with new MMO's is it isn't the same market as before. In the past MMO's released with missing end game content and high end level content and people dealt with it, like they had before. Problem is now that there is a popular game and when people buy the new ones they expect this content in the game instantly and it just isnt.

Tabula Rasa was really a shell of a game, I didn't think it was any fun and seemed really bland.

AoC was a lot of fun till Villa grinds, but I recently went back, it's not as dead as you might think. They merged servers and if you look at their forums every day theres a ton of "coming back" posts.

Warhammer also took a large hit as they had to merge many servers.

I'm really curious what Biowares plans are with SW:TOR, I hope they plan to release with it almost competely or it might face the same fate.

Insecurity about playing WOW really shows there. I was bashing no one. I was warning about what it can do to people. You are a gleaming example.

I have no insecruitys about playing the game, I play it, it's mildly boring now, use to be alot more fun. If you had read this whole thread you would have seen I said this before and stated I never gave up a full time job, a gf, college, and a kid to play WoW.

But now I feel obligated to respond as you feel a personal swipe at me is fair game I feel the need to explain a bit. As it seems quiet a few here feel the need to broadcast their personal opinion on something whenever a thread is up about that subject, weather their personal opinion has anything to do with the topic at hand or not. This happens in Intel Threads by AMD guys, AMD threads from Intel guys, and ATi, or Nvidia threads. And now there are 2 people posting crap like this in this thread. If you has read the first page you might have already seen the derailment, or maybe you did and felt you still needed to get one good one in there, despite it having zero to do with the original topic.

If you feel thats what the game does and that doesn't have to do with the topic, why are you looking at the thread. Or if you feel that can happen to some people, don't flat out say that, at least try and post some on topic and add in to be careful. I will admit I did over react a bit, but just sick of offtopic personal opinion posts. But the second shot, seriously? Trolling, flaming, and posting on topic are all mentioned in the forum guidelines, you have been here long enough to know them. I really wish on topic posts were controlled a bit better, getting sickening seeing some peoples opinion that has zero to do with the thread just so you can search to some actual useful info.

Thread topic: I want to play WOW again.

Some people answered with: Oh no! Please don't. and watch out it can interfere with your lifestyle.

Thats actually on topic. Most people hate to see other's opinions only when its not there own. Its a natural reaction and I am not saying that its bad. Its just not open minded.

Info would be found through research. Unbiased research would be found through reading the reviews on this site. If you honestly hate to see opinions you shouldn't be reading the forums. Forums are for expression after all.

I believe in global warming but I enjoy seeing both sides(or opinions) of it on this forum. Opposing views are what makes forums what they are. Life is a matter of perspective anyway.

To play WoW again has zero to do with what you feel it does to peoples lives, especially if you actually read the first post and not just the thread title you would see he was asking what he need to start playing the game again, and not asking if he should or should not.

So if you hate posting on topic, I'll toss the advice back that you shouldn't be posting on the forums, it's right in the forum guidelines, pretty simple thing to follow,

I haven't played since Burning Crusade launch.. I kinda want to play again but all my friends are playing other games.. It's just no fun playing with strangers. If I get WoTLK, do I get a month free? Or do I have to pay to continue my sub cause I still have my account details for my BC account.

Your posts are technically off topic as well. Let the moderators do the moderating please.

I don't think you will get a month free :( But you could try the WotLK 10 day trial and decide if you do or do not want to play again. Then it ends up costing you $0 too. But I know what you mean, I've played on a few servers alone and it was very dull, ended up going back to play with friends and is much more enjoyable. Especially since I don't really feel like raiding anymore, can still talk with them and mess around on lowbies.

They would be on topic like this post if there was anything actually to discuss besides peoples personal opinions on what WoW does to other peoples lives. But when the entire thread is filled with that then there is nothing to discuss.

Why would you delete characters? :O I never delete any, no point unless you fill all 10 server slots. Either way still 10 free days of play as you would have to make new characters anyways.
