Does anyone know of a program that can be setup in Windows XP to monitor a specified folder and email any files that appear in that folder. Even better would be to email the text from within those files - but I think this may be asking too much.

Sounds like synchronisation.
Maybe a google search of that?

Sounds custom lol.

Everything I found does the sync via FTP/Server or over network. Not by email. Im assuming this cant be done (computers in separate geographic locations?).

Id have no idea how to do that haha.
So If I was a noob, which I am, Id use that foldershare program.

Or I suppose id read up on the FTP setup, but if I was only gonna transfer word docs or something it probably might not be worth the bother?

Really easy to set up. The hardest part would probably be to forward the ports through your router :p.

You can set it up in windows itself using IIS, or use filezilla, really easy to use and set up.

A program that should email the files would be Syncback.

I found that I can do it with watchdirectory http://www.watchdirectory.net

I work with robotic laboratory instruments and I needed to have the controlling computer in the lab send out an email to someone in the office when something occurs (eg an error or completion of a task etc). The controlling software can only dump a text file into a directory so I needed a piece of software to monitor said directory, read new files and email the contents.

Watch Directory seems to do it perfectly - just need to convince my boss that it's worth £80.
