My Case Choices:
My Cooler Choices:

So, what do you guys think? I'm mainly looking for the following things:

What I want in a case:
  • Great airflow
  • Great cable management
  • Ability to fit a giant cooler
  • Looks fairly nice (H440, Enthoo EVOLV ATX, HAF X, and the MCP5 all look nice to me)
  • Durable (I got a dumb ass dog who crashes into things)
  • Actual, working fan filters
What I want in a cooler:
  • Great AMD performance (like the HE01)
  • Pretty quiet (wouldn't be a problem in the H440 or the Define R5)
  • Somewhat easy to install (212 EVO is great example of a unnecessarily-difficult-to-install cooler)
  • High TDP (reason I'm upgrading the cooler is because of the 140w TDP)

Thanks for reading!

No, I'd be spending $300+ on something like a 5820k, and more on a motherboard and new RAM. I'm not doing that, I'm keeping my 8350, however shitty mine may be.

Look you can buy whatever you want in the end. But most people with advice are going to tell you to go with an Intel build.... Its just the common sense route.

Whats the purpose of the rig??

Do you already own the 8350?

Honestly you could probably snag a good combo deal if your near a microcenter. They had the i5 4690k for 199$ and the i7 4790K for 280$, and then you get a deal with a motherboard combo, so yes, for around 350$ you can go intel and also have the motherboard included. Newegg has it listed for a bit higher. If the main use is not gaming then it may not be a huge deal between AMD and Intel. But at this point in time I would not buy an 8350.

If you go for Fractal Design case without a window you can happily go with a Noctua cooler since you won't see it after installation anyway ;) I got a Fractal Design Define R5 and Noctua NH-D15S, that cooler is huge! Easy to install, plug in any cables close to the socket before screwing on the cooler (including fans) though! Stellar performance. Dust filters work great on the R5 and are easy to clean, if you install a fan on the side panel you need to buy a separate filter for that.

Never (because I have a bright ass cold cathode I want to see, and I love being a showoff)! The Define R5 sounds wonderful though, but I don't much like the sound filtering (I love having a little bit of noise). The Dark Rock Pro 3 would look absolutely amazing in the R5 too.

I own everything. It's a multi-use machine, but the big uses are After Effects, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, overclocking, a small amount of gaming (IE: GD, TW3, Skyrim, FC4, FC3, and BF4), and a development PC. I already own the 8350, which is why I said "I'm keeping my 8350, however shitty mine may be" (I was referencing how mine is outclassed by mobile, low-power i5s).

The CRYORIG H7 is a decent cooler and the Cooler Master HAF X is a decent case. Why are you concerned by your cooling? What are the temps?

Not a good enough cooler. Keep in mind, this is my 8350 at STOCK and IDLE.

I was told to replace the HAF X by like three people on OC.net. I also hate the shitty excuse for cable management it has.

3. None at the moment, but I can get money.
4. It's in one of my comments above.

Cause I couldn't click the link.

Most likely the cooler, case, PSU, and I'm adding extra RAM for AE and RAMDisk. I'm gonna say maybe $400.

Have you considered the Corsair 600C? Maybe the best air cooling case there is.

Your system looks pretty good, the 8350 will serve you well in the programs your running. The Seagate seems expensive and id swap that out if you can with something better like a WD Black? Corsair PSU might be alittle over kill for your system? and ive had alot of bad experiences with Corsair PSU in the past, wont buy them again sadly. Also im not 100% certain on this but maybe buy a Nvidia card it might help you out more with the use of Cuda with some of your programs.

No idea why that's still in there, it's dead now. I won't buy an overpriced and loud WD BLACK either. The PSU is not overkill, hell, it's underkill for the overclocking I do. I'm waiting for CUDA on AMD, so my CPU is taking an ass kicking rendering for now. I'm also not Nvidiayy, I'm AyyMD.

Whens the last time you bought a WD Black? there quiet now and they give you 5yrs warranty hence the higher price, but worth it in my eyes. For over clocking maybe yes but for normal every day clocks even a 600W PSU would do the job. You might be waiting a long time for that for Cuda on AMD cards? I have no idea when that will ever happen, do you? yes I can see that, I like AMD also but im also practical and not a fanboy of any brand, if it does the job for the same price then why not?

I realize the things I say sound silly, or just downright fuck-faced, but I do them for a reason, whether that be fanboyism, brand loyalty, or performance.

i have a corsair air 540 case and it really good for watercooling and air cooling. comes with good fans too.

have you considered an AIO cooler for the cpu which would enable good overclocking too? the corsair of new antecs are good and the same cost nearly as the dark rock 3.. that said, the new cpu fans with certain amd chips are apparently good. the nxt h440 is good.

My 8320 @ 5Ghz benches as high as a 750$ 5930k Intel CPU. Of course an FX series build can be worth it in 2016, but not at stock speeds.

I like this build other than the motherboard.

personally I would spend a bit less on the case and maybe see if that enabled me to get a slightly better graphics card, I appreciate we all have different priorities though.

I already have the GPU, and I got it for free, and it's one of the best ones on Userbenchmark.

I'm an air cooling nerd, and I hate liquid cooling because of one shitty experience with it.

It's good for the motherboard as well, there's been some posts about AMD FX owners buying loops, overclocking the crap out of the CPU and burning the motherboard because of lack of cooling.

That actually was one of my original choices, but it's just so damn expensive for what it is.

Well if you got it for free then you can't argue with that, my thoughts were only around the point that the card is just a mid ranged product, a case, providing it has decent airflow/cooling options does not really add some future proofing to a system where a graphics card can.
