Space Marine 2 is the latest entry in the Warhammer 40K universe, where you step into the role of an Ultramarine and battle against the alien Tyranids. In our performance review, we'll look at the game's graphics quality, VRAM consumption, and how it runs across a range of contemporary graphics cards.

I was waiting for you guys to put a benchmark of this game thank you.

I'm waiting for them to patch in ultrawide support before I buy it.

Thanks for the review. It looks like one of the games where RDNA3 actually manages to dual issue. I also learnt that @W1zzard is a Warhammer fan.

There must be some kind of mistake there.

I mean, i was told many, many times that the 7900xtx is absolute trash, so it shouldn’t be scoring so high.

/S in case its needed.

This game looks like its a lot of fun so question for you, how does it compares to the first/previous one?

Sorry, haven’t played either one so curious.

I did play the old RTS (being a huge fan of Starcraft) and the other one that was squad based. Really fun games.

I've beat it using my A770 16GB but multiplayer didn't work (drivers detected as cheats by EAC I assume). Swapped to my old 2060 and it works all fine.

This makes sense. The TPU review CPU test sample is a 14900K. The game is CPU heavy and I strongly suspect its one of the few titles which are cache-sensitive, significantly benefiting with X3D processors.

I'm not familiar with the uploader but the following might be useful: 7700X vs 7800X3D:

Seeing higher tier graphics cards are underutilised it would be good to see a CPU bench comparison for this game. Perhaps a little later once a couple of patches/further optimisations have been released. I'm interested in getting this game as soon as I can figure out how to manage the backlog. I've got a few lined up.

The Dynamic Render Resolution was great at keeping 30 fps on my 1060 6GB at all times.
So instead of unbearable lag in busy scenarios the resolution would just drop, which was a more pleasant experience.

CPU bench comparison for this game
Given the ongoing site issues, weekend and Final Fantasy next week, I doubt I'll have time. It does seem like an interesting title to add to future CPU reviews though

Interesting! Hardware unboxed tested on 7800x3d and hit 110 FPS limit on all top GPUs. So Intel is much faster in this game

It looks like they are both doing custom benchmarks wouldn't that need to be the same for testing on both cpu's?

So we need one review that test with both systems in the same custom benchmark?

I don't know why this game warns me of not enough VRAM when i set textures to ultra. I have RTX 4070 with 12GB VRAM. And I played in 1440P. The game is very CPU intensive as Digital Foundry reported. I still use old i5 8600K OC'ed to 5GHz, And this game boiled it like no game so far. Over 90C with water cooling. water in tubes was literally hot on touch.

To clarify, "Optimized CPU behavior on high-end CPUs" meant that in previous versions of the game, any program that had any control over mouse input would cause massive stuttering upon moving the camera. My WACOM tablet service running in the background was the culprit, and when closing out of it on version 2.0 this stuttering upon camera movement would no longer occur. Upon Hotfix 2.1, this issue was resolved and I no longer had to close out the background programs related to my drawing tablet. Since they didn't document this fix, I assume this is what it's vaguely referring to as I noticed no uplift or change in performance on my 5800X3D other than this fix.

They tested a particular scene though.

You can bet Steve will have a crack with the Intel cpu's shortly.

I doubt, he's so afraid of Intel platforms now..lmao..and probably he'll use the same old lame settings on Intel to make it look like its performing worse..

No 21:9 resolution support in a new game in late 2024? This isn't what I was expecting. :(

I hope they'll add it later, because this is probably my most anticipated title of this year (with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 being delayed again).

There must be some kind of mistake there.

I mean, i was told many, many times that the 7900xtx is absolute trash, so it shouldn’t be scoring so high.
It looks too me like one of the rare instances where the new dual-issue shaders improve performance on RDNA 3. Even the 7800 XT scores higher than the 6900 XT. And the 7600 tailgating the 6700 XT... Nice. :)

I'm waiting for them to patch in ultrawide support before I buy it.
Have they promised adding it later? It would be a bummer to play it with black bars left and right. :(

Better than nothing, I guess. Although I have to say, not supporting 21:9 resolutions straight away, but instead, adding it via a patch later is pretty poor.

Absolutely. Swarm Engine is fairly notorious for being CPU heavy and was the reason why World War Z stuck around in CPU benches on several sites for a while.
Shame there are no RTS titles worth adding to the bench nowadays. That genre was always pushing CPUs when it was alive (Supreme Commander, for example). I understand taking out AoE IV, though, that games engine was an absolute shitshow and basically was a test of “how high can your single core go”.

Its crazy though, a game that just runs and looks fine and there's no mention of RT in it.

Strange, indeed!

But again... AMD... FSR2? Sigh.

Sure it looks fine no argument there, but it's hardly cutting edge visually. The right choice for this game though I reckon, It is what it chose to be.
