Recently asrock published new bios versions with support for Ryzen 3xxx. I like to keep my hardware and its firmware up to date so i instantly flashed my motherboard. Before downloading v3.10 you are warned that you can't downgrade to 2.00 after flashing to 3.10. Once flashing was done and system rebooted i started noticing already in bios that cpu fan is working different way and is noticeably louder. Analyzed few things here and there, contacted asrock's support (they answer really quick and with decent answers), just for me they uploaded bios with option to downgrade to 2.00.

When i started noticing on 3.10 fan speed changes at first i thought maybe it is some placebo effect and it used to be working like this before but not, once i downgraded (thx Asrock support!) problem disappeared, pc became way more quiet.

Then to compare these i decided to log readings with hwinfo to .csv file and there definitely is a difference. Logs already sent to asrock so they can narrow and fix the problem.

This is with 2700x's stock wraith prism cooler. I have no idea how it is with different coolers but i would guess these also may be affected.

I'm posting this as sort of warning to other x470 taichi ultimate users. As ultimate and non-ultimate versions are practically identical i would assume these also may be affected.

If you already upgraded and are noticing the same issue contact asrock for version with which you can downgrade to 2.00 or pm me.

If you want to check logs by yourself here they are attached, cpu fan is labeled as cpu2.

I would look into the bios since some usually the bios update reset or add more settings and might had changed one of them regarding the CPU Fan.

I just received an answer from asrock and seems it is not as normal as it used to be but it is on purpose. Their message explains everything so i will just copy&paste it in here:

“Monitor CPU” on BIOS P2.00 and P3.10 is not the same.
With BIOS 3.10 fan speed should change more rapidly based on the real time CPU temperature compare with BIOS P2.00 (Thermistor).
By looking at the fan speed values that you gave, it seems ok because CPU temperature (Tctrl) do change fast up and downs.
If it is not tuned, a set of more extreme fan speed value should be shown. (ex. 1970 -> 2600 -> 1800)

You might try with manual fan speed settings and/or adjust Step up / step down parameter. Like set to 2~5. This should delay the spinning up/down a bit more.
