Water Cooled Vega 64 Overclocked And Tested By TomsHardware

Yesterday night I finished building the custom water loop on my Vega 64.
I started building stuff late in the evening and it got quite late until 2:00 o'clock.

I did only one test so far. I played Witcher Wild Hunt for around 40 minutes leaving the Wattman settings at default Balanced mode.
I was able to achieve average clock of around 1528MHz with the GPU temperature staying on average at 39°C at room temperature of 24°C. These temperatures are great.
The maximum temperature of the GPU was 42°C. The maximum GPU frequency was 1630MHz.
The frequency measurements were done with Wattman as well as GPU-Z.
I will repeat the test tonight and make some screen shots as I did not make any yesterday.

This result is very close to what Tom's got in the Witcher with Turbo mode.
In my case the Wattman is on balanced mode and I achieve average of 1528MHz in Witcher.
I will do further testing tonight with Turbo mode turned on to see how high the average clock can go on my Vega 64 sample.

I bought a Saphire aircooled Vega 64. It is a variant where the GPU chip and HBM2 have same height and there is Epoxy filling between GPU and HBM2.
I used IC Diamond 7 Carat as thermal compound on GPU and HBM.

The undervolting test will come in the next days.

With original cooler it was hitting 85°C all the time with default fan profile.
To achieve lower temperatures in range of 65°C on the blower cooler, the fan speed needed to be increase above 3300RPM.
It was like sitting next to a Vacuam cleaner!!
The average clock there with high fan RPM was always below 1430MHz.

Ha,some clowns over on Linus Tech were trying to argue that for the price of the Monsta 420 AIO you could build a custom loop.

Well custom water cooling is quite expensive, especially here in Germany. I don't how the component prices in other nations are.
Counting the cost of my pump plus reservoir, 3 radiators, 5 fans, GPU and CPU water blocks, coolant, fittings and tubing, I arrive at a cost of around 750€ just for the custom water cooling loop.

Terrible analogy. For the money SEVERAL Civics can be just as fast or faster . Are you calling Vega the GTR?

and those civics(vega) need how much work and how much air/fuel to be as fast as a gtr(pascal)
at the end of the its still a civic its still front wheel drive its still small and its not as nice as a gtr

You're comparing a $100,000 sports car to an economy car, it's silly. However, I will entertain you, a K-swapped Civic can run 11s naturally aspirated for less than $10,000. A boosted Civic can be a lot faster for $30,000. Again, this is a dumb comparison. A lot of people don't even care for a GTR, current models are ugly in my opinion even if they run 11s. I'd rather have a Tesla that's just as fast, better looking and more economical.

Right well vega just needs a software update, thats going to take time but wont cost a dime.
Its a poor analogy Onemoar.
And I get what you're saying but a 1070 wasn't for me personally ,it wouldn't have beat the vega in my use case ,and using freesync tied the deal.

You're not missing anything. OneMoar is however missing a whole lot. He doesn't realize that Vega 56 and 64 are like GTRs that weren't ever tuned from the factory(LOL) and now consumers are adjusting the air/fuel ratio to a nice 12:1 and getting a large amount of performance increases. Still, the pricing is so jacked up that a 1080ti still looks like the Bugatti Veyron or some other Hypercar while costing the same, I figure he'll understand if I use cars.
