Watercooling Nerds you have been summoned!!

Well I travel a lot so I'm trying to build a 1U laptop.
I got inspiration from this guy on youtube.

But mine will be better in every way!


Nah this one is actual 1U but I have another layout that I decided it was not worth it .
As far as components go:
Ryzen 9 7950x
Rtx 4090+Block AlphaCool.
-Psu 1200w Hawlet Pakard.
-Mother board also haven't decided but will likely be something 17x17cm itx packed with maximum features.
-Ram(haven't decided but probably 64gb)
-3x (7x) 40x40x60mm rads AlphaCool.
-1x (4x) 40x40x60mm rad AlphaCool.
-24x Noctua Nf-a4x20/SunonMaglev MF40201VX-1000U-G99.
-The case and everything else custom.
-Pump Laing DDC+Top or 2x DC-LT 3600+Top.
-Tubing TPV from AlphaCool.
-12.7x6.7mm low profile fittings AlphaCool.
-Cpu block 1U xpx or equivalent also from AlphaCool.
-Case material 3mm Aluminium sheet.
-Case Dimensions 65x50x40cm.
-Screen size 27"( haven't decided what monitor to get it from but has to be 4k 120hz).
-24 40x40mm chrome fan grills.

You'd be significantly better off with a case from Sliger or one of the sub 15L conventional sandwich cases.

Are you for real? You want to build a 146L, probably 80lb system because… you travel a lot?

You realize that this is like 3 full ATX mid-towers, right? Or >10 itx systems? Plus the weight from watercooling and the noise from those tiny fans?



I’d just buy an itx case. If noise and cooling are actually an issue then go ATX, where you can watercool if you must (would highly discourage watercooling if you’re traveling a lot, though).

Yeah i'm not seeing this idea as practical or possible.
Buy a chassis and hardware first, you cant design this backwards around vague ideas


If you want a laptop, buy a laptop. If you want an ITX rig, buy one - and choose a case that supports cooling the hardware you want

For this project, i would recommend the DDC pump.

So I find the project interesting. Why not. A laptop is more compact, but less powerful overall. And if I only travel from office to office, so I always have a power outlet, a laptop offers me no advantage. A mini-ITX system does not have a monitor integrated. And the shape of the Mini-ITX case is often not very suitable for transport. A flat case with a foldable monitor does have its appeal for some specific purposes. There are similar systems for outdoor use in some areas. They are ultra expensive, hard to get but preferable to any laptop for certain uses.
In the end, everyone should do what he wants. Sometimes you just want to do something, even if it may not make sense. See it as a challenge and fun. Why is something like this always criticized?

Why do you say that it's impossible?
DIY perks built it if you have seen his video his watercooled table pc came out very slim!
I have done metal work in the past so really this "case" is a walk in the park, I just need to make sure the cooling is adequate!

I paid the Sliger's website a visit and holy s**t they are all over 200€!!
I can make mine for around 80€ easily, I have access to proper metal working tools.

Gunna second the DDC pump, the D5's are more powerful but the DDC's are definitely a LOT smaller
You're after something that's physically impractical - you say you move a lot, but you want a design that is a clunky format (the 1U rack)

You can DIY something, but putting it simply it's adding to the potential things that can go wrong (and we can't judge that level of risk at all since it's all in your imagination at this point) and with liquid cooling in the mix, the weight and stresses on joins and connectors is higher.

I'm not saying it can't be done or that you shouldn't do it because I love doing dumb things with tech, but you DO need to consider the extra risks and make whatever you design with them in mind

That are PWM fans. Minimum rpm is 400 But 40mm fans with ~ 3000rpm have a similar noise than a 120mm fan with 800rpm.

I appreciate your will to help me but I am aware of your line up of fans in fact I have learned every nuck and crany of your website :V ,I will have to deny your offer at least for the time being ,maybe in the future once I finalize and start the project, I'm planning to start a YT channel and do a proper video explaining everything ( maybe some end credits about you/AlphaCool).

Oh don't worry. I was doing my evil cackle when I wrote that. We used to have delta fans at LAN parties tied down with string as hovering room fans, entirely unsafe but quite effective at cooling humans

Why almost 150L? How are you going to transport that monstrosity? If you have 400mm of case height, why settle for 40mm fans when you can use 120mm, or even 180mm (you know, for the novelty), or double of either?

I think you miss understood, the true dimensions of the inside are:
4cm height
65cm width
50cm long
12.48L
