WD 600GB VelociRaptor

Hi guys,
I just got a 600GB Velociraptor and I want to create a simple volume with no partitions. I managed to get 558.72GB Allocated, but now I have 200mb that I am unable to delete. It says 200MB Healthy (EFI system) I want to delete that and basically have a new format with all the available space. How do you delete all that 200mb space?

what did you use to format it? sounds to me like that 200mb was being used by the format utility.

To go here go to Start, Right click computer, click on Manage then disk management.

It's something like that, but it says EFI system partition. Everytime I try to right click it to delete it, there is no options to do that. All the options are greyed out.

The only thing is that 200mb is reserved for EFI system partition and the other part is entirely usuable space.

That's your boot partition if you have no reserved space on any other drives. So the windows' bootloader might reside here. You might not be able to boot if you delete it. :cool:

Have you tried using a Linux LiveCD to clear the partition table?

Wait, but I already have a boot SSD that has OS and stuff. I just wanted to plug in the Velociraptor to do a clean install. I'll see if I could use the Linux LiveCD.

You need that.

It's less than a tenth of a percent (0.03%) of the total space. Nothing to fret over.

No, just looking at it seems annoying that's all.

I just wanted to know if that is normal because all my other 1TB, 2TB, etc.. drives formatted without this EFI system partition.

Briefly reading over the wiki page, it states that you need to have that space, but I'm not trying to use it as a boot drive at the moment.

"looks annoying" is something I can understand. At least you only see it in disk management instead of as a drive you can't use.

this isn't an OS drive so no he doesn't need it. you should be able to format it again in dos and remove that partition.
