About 2 weeks ago my friend bought all the parts to make his new comp, which included..

The first one I could not figure out, it showed up in the HDD management window and in bios, but it did not show when windows started. I could format it from the HDD util and assign it a drive letter, but it doesn't really work right. So he RMA'd the first one and now the new one showd up and it does the samething. I'm lost and wondering if there is something with the 1TB HDD's that I am missing as I would assume that both these HDD's were not bad.

Does it format successfully? Have you assigned it a specific letter? Can you access it by typing that letter in Windows explorer?

I once had this issue a long time ago and made a slight change in the registry to have the PC reset all of the items (hard drives, CD-ROM, etc) that usually show up when opening My Computer. Can't recall what the change was but a simple Google search should help.

I don't use anything windows related. I use acronis to format, clone, etc disks. You could give that a go.
Of course, I have no clue if it matters, but I trust nothing made by m$ lol.

I would think that if there's a problem it's in the bios. I'm don't know about HDDs, but does it matter if it's set to ide or ahci?

I'd test it in a known good box. You never know if the MB/bios is funky.

I had a problem before where I went through 3 perfectly working drives, only to realize that the Disk Manager in Windows XP was having a problem and could not format any of the drives properly. It would do quick format but the drive would never show up... Sounds like an OS issue.
