weird 5970 fan profile issue?

Halloo folks I'm new here...

Okay, I got the latest vBIOS for my SAPPHIRE 5970 O.C. from HERE:

http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=185918

I've modded my own fan profile into the Original BIOS...then flashed it O.K.
(don't want to use "fan software" as it's a bugger for microstutter)

But the mew vBIOS fan profile doesn't seem to do anything in Win 7 x64?

The fan speed is unchanged until I enable manual control in CCC and set it to 40%.

The profile is definately being saved to the vBIOS - it's seemingly doing nothing though...

Any ideas from anyone would be appreciated...

in retarded hell
ever since i had a bugger with the fan profile and a 4870x2, i now use MSI afterburner, currently with my 5970.

what microstutter do you mean with software fan profiles? I have no problem with afterburner.

adjusting the fan profile in the BIOS gave me major stutter issues (again 4870x2), but software fan profiles (afterburner), no problem.

Welcome to TPU! :toast:

Well, you're using the same bios I have flashed my own 5970 to.

Just a curiousity, why did you decide to change the fan profile in the bios?
Have you tried the bios as it is without having your fan profile modded into it?

preference...

It's just preference I guess - I'd rather have the fan profile be something permenant than use a proprietary software solution.

I'm just confused as to why it seems to do nothing?
(ze' vBIOS modz - zay do nozing...LOL!):D

As for microstutter - @2DividedbyZero...you are correct, it's not afterburner...it's fan profiles in general.

Looks like I'll be changing the fan profile again...

Okay - I've adjusted the fan profile to use "step function"...I'll re-flash later tonight and get back to you guys...

Groovy! Changing the vBIOS to "step function" seems to have solved the issue.

Once I re-flashed and booted into Win 7 the fan speed is running at what I want now...

...can't tell for certain yet, but I'll keep you guys posted.
